Default 2011 LX570 has reduced towing capacity?

http://www.lexus.com/models/LX/detai...fications.html

The above link states that the towing capacity for the 2011 LX570 is only 7000 lbs. The towing capacity is listed as 6500 lbs for the GX460, and reviews of previous LX570/Landcruisers have the towing capacity listed as 8500 lbs.

(Also somewhat odd is how the max payload for the LX570 is listed as 1280 lbs (but it can seat eight?). Is that payload normal for an eight seater?).

Does anyone know why the towing capacity seems to have dropped? Is it just a mistake? thanks

^^^ Very similar to when HP ratings were lowered due to testing changes but performance was the same since the only thing to change was the actual number.

Someone had to go first, and today we learn that Toyota has adjusted its pickup's tow rating to the new standard, and so the Tundra can tow less on paper today despite not a single change being made to the vehicle.

thanks guys

I find it strange that the 2011 GX460 is still rated at 6500 lbs (same as 2010 GX460). I wonder if they still have to update its numbers? (Perhaps for the 2012 model?) Afterall, the two engines have considerable differences in terms of torque and in the Tundra (under the revised guidelines) I see a 1400 lbs difference in towing ability.

Any thoughts on payload? I guess short of buying a heavy duty truck that no one makes a payload that can support 8 adults in their car?

I've put 8 adults in my car multiple times, and once on a roadtrip. I could definitely feel a change in how she handled, but not to a dangerous degree, and on the roadtrip I even had to make emergency maneuvers.

As goes payload, loaded F150s are rated as low as 900lbs while even a loaded diesel F250 can be only 1900lbs.

BTW, the 1300lb LX570 payload would allow 8 passengers with an avg weight of 163lbs, which is plenty if women are children are included even accounting for luggage
