Default Install 2002 wood transmission handle on a 98.

I picked up a used wood handle from a 2002 to updated my 98 LX, but the overdrive switch will not turn the overdrive off. You have to hold the switch in for it to turn off.. It seems to be a clicker type switch and returns to the same position after it is depressed. The one in the 98 is up or down all the time or on and off. Might I have to switch something on the trans to make this work? Thanks for any help.

That is very funny because I replaced my leather one in my 99 for a wooden shifter and the exact same thing happened to me. Did you buy yours off ebay like i did? I took my lx470 in for service and they are ordering a new OD button for me for about $60 bucks. I will reply if that fixes the problem.

I got a new o/d switch thinking that would fix it also! But it did not. Let me know how yours turns out and thanks for the information.

I got the wooden shift thrown in for FREE when I picked up my 98 LX470 a couple of years back. Mine has that same problem. The Lexus Dealership did everything the could but cannot seems to get the overdrive button to work. They mentioned something about older model / newer shift **** .... [kinda forgot.. been a while].

Either way, it's not a defective or an installation error.... just the way it is. Looks good though. Besides, how often do you drive in overdrive?

Good Luck

Question Pictures?

Do you have any pictures of this? My e-mail address is Jasoneo5@attbi.com and ANY pictures would be greatly appreciated because I really want to do this to my 99' LX470. Thanks so much for your time and help! Best Regards,

I can send you all of the pictures that you want but i will warn you that there is no way that i have found to fix the overdrive button. The shifter is also very expensive to buy from the dealer. I bought mine on ebay and i would reccomend the same for you. I also found that it was semi-difficult to install because i accidentally cut the old wires off too short and had to disassemble the center console to fix my mistake. The new handle does look great though. I also replaced my leather wheel with the 2001 wood one. They both look great and i bought them brand new on ebay for about 450 total. If you are still inerested in either mod just let me know and i will elaborate on who to call to get them and how to install them both.
