Default 1999 LX470 Ready For a New Life Off Road

Hi all,

After months of lurking, I've just made an account to ask for help with my new toy; a 1999 LX with 119k. I got it for $2000 meaning I have wiggle room. Needs a little tlc. Needs alternator, front and rear bumpers need to be painted, leather is ripped, but the real kicker is the AHC has completely gone likely due to fluid contamination. The system needs $2500 in parts alone to get things back to stock so I decided to have some fun with it instead.

My plan is to replace the AHC system with a Land Cruiser lift kit, pick up some sweet ARB bumpers to replace the stock ones which need painting, pick up some other external goodies (roof rack etc), upgrade the radio to bring it into the modern era, do some much needed upholstery work on the leather seats, and get this girl rolling.

I've been looking at Slee lift kits and bumpers but am having some difficulty figuring out if slee is the way to go and which lift makes sense for my needs. I do a fair amount of hunting, countryside exploration, minor off-roading, and vacationing/on-road driving with the family (this accounts for 50% of the time), so a balance between beauty and beast is needed.

This will likely be the biggest mechanical project I will tackle so any advice, suggestions, or words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

All the best,
Pat

Welcome, I just got my first truck last month. Join the forum on ih8mud.com too, lots of folks have done a lot of mods already to the 100 series cruisers.

Top of my list is to get rid of the damn 20s, buying wheels and tires this week.

The only words of wisdom I could suggest would be to call Slee and ask.

I would recommend Old Man Emu suspension. It has been fitted in lieu of many 100 series Sahara's and 470s here in Oz when the AHC is need of changing to something capable of carrying more weight.

Have a talk to the folks at ARB about spring rates and shocks. They have a wide variety for different loads and comfort requirements.
