I just brought my 2006 LX 470 with 34k miles on it in to repair shop and got a $4,000 bill!!

Does this car have problems that I don't realize since its been sitting too long?

Here are the repairs they are saying need to be done:
Replace leaking water pump, timing belts, drive belts
Coolant was low
Cv boots cracked and need to be replaced and replaced
Exhaust muffler needs to be replaced
Radio antenna replacement
Rotate and balance tires due to shaking of wheel at highway speeds
Oil dirty and needs to be changed

Just shocked with so many repairs with such low mileage.

Any comments? Advice?

Ouch. I might be in the same boat as you.
I purchased a 2002 LX470 with 24K miles and delivery is tomorrow.
Probably the Timing Belt replacement is suggested because its easy
to do once they have the engine apart to install a replacement
Water Pump.

Muffler replacement with such low miles is suspicious.

I think it's more of a 10-year v. a 34K mile thing.

If this is a truck you just purchased, sounds like PO didn't notice a lot...coolant leak causing low coolant, cracked cv boots, antenna did not move up and down, etc.


I could see the muffler going TU if the 34K were put on with short trips.

Just wondering if this water pump issue is a bigger engine issue.

Any I dea how to verify if the engine has a problem? Or other parts are about to need replacement?

A leaky water pump is not a sign that a "bigger engine issue" will happen.

I would start from scratch with fresh fluids, particularly for the transmission and the AHC system (if equipped with AHC).

You could also ask a dealer or indy shop with TIS for a post-pre-purchase inspection and see if anything else comes up.

I just sold a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan with 135,000 miles.
Still had the original factory timing belt and water pump.
Never was under scheduled maintenance except for regular oil changes
religiously at 3,000 - 4,000 miles. Tranny oil never changed. Only mechanical
problem I ever had with this vehicle was to replace the front valve cover
gasket and replace one slightly noisy CV joint. Never stranded us, always ran
smoothly. This van was driven easily - perhaps part of the reason.

If I get this all fixed is the car most likely good to go for a while? Any opinions?

Any other stuff that might break that is associated with these repairs?
Any other common lx470 things that break?

Maybe just need to fix this and sell it?

Your in NY, was this 100 series in NY? How much rust under your 100 series. About the only thing that can kill a 100 series is rust. Are the CV boots leaking grease, if not they don't need to be replaced yet. I would get another opinion on work needed other then the water pump and timing belt along with new seals gaskets, etc. they should be done every 7 years and or 90k miles. If you do have rust get under it and clean off all the rust and treat it and then paint it and continue to do this every year.

Yeah, all they did was replace the water pump, timing belt, drive belt, and the exhaust system.

do they rust in any particular places?

Just the metal parts on the bottom. You will know it when you see it. Put it on a rack or just get on your knees with a flashlight

I have one on its second timing belt change . The only reason I'm changing the timing belt now is the last one was in 07(94k) and it has 165k now miles . The fan bearing seized up broke the serpentine belt and rest is history . $885.00 for timing belt ,water pump and the fan bearing that went out . It's preventative for now I plan on keeping it for a while . I'm the second owner

Our '01 LX left LTS Motors in Boise last week after her 180K service. Beyond the timing belt, both the serp belt idler and tensioner had lumpy bearings and were replaced. No other issues. You ended up with a great price on everything.

I also had great news after asking the shop to check and report on AHC pressures...everything normal.
