Smile I am impressed !

We literally drive only Lexus and Toyota's.

And I have heard so many positive feedbacks about LX470.

And today, we finally got a 2005 LX470. It has 230k miles, one owner and 200% fully serviced by one exclusive Lexus dealer since new.

I have to say, the truck drives like it has 20k miles on it. We cannot believe it's that good !

As the new owner, I have three questions I hope veteran LX470 owners can help:

1. Whenever I stop and go, I feel a thud/thumping coming from the bottom of the truck. I suppose it's from the transmission. But if I switch the gear to 3rd instead of 4th, it goes away. But as soon as I change it to regular 4th/D drive, it comes back. Can someone help me with possible remedies?

2. I notice the headlights for 05 is made of plastic but not solid glass like my friend's 99's or 2000's. I wonder if I can simply purchase a set of used glass and replace my current plastic set?

3. When I turn on the ML stereo, I notice I can use the MODE button on steering wheel to change from FM, AM to DVD and the last one is called MD. What is that? I notice there is an old iPod cable in the passenger glove compartment. Does that mean the system is prewired for iPod???

many thanks in advance !!!

Glad to hear you love your LX. Sounds like a good one despite the higher mileage.

For #1, it could be a transmission issue, but the "thud" is also commonly a driveshaft that hasn't been lubricated or maintained properly and the slip joint is the cause. You could try pumping 5-10 squirts of grease and see if it helps, or better yet pull the drive shaft, separate the two halfs, clean it up really good, and then apply new/fresh grease and reassemble. If you don't want to do it, a drive train specialist would likely do it for < $100.
It could also be worn bushings in the control arms that regulate the suspension and movement of the rear axle.

FOr #2, I believe the shape is different between 99 and 05 and makes the headlights not interchangeable.

No idea on your 3rd question.
