Default Wtb 2000 lx470

Hi all,
Im new to the forum and have been shopping for my first lexus off and on for about three years. My present lease is about to expire and I think my heart is set on the Lx. Back in the fall, i almost leased a new Gx but I am trying to do the Dave Ramsey thing and just pay cash for my next vehicle and throw the 1000 a month that would go towards a monthly note in a retirement account. I located an lx at a dealer with about 200k miles for 8k. My understanding is these things are bulletproof, as are the Land Cruisers. My research suggests the older Lx actually has lower used prices than a similar land cruiser. Intuition tells me the lx has probably been treated better as well. I would like to get at least 50k miles out of the vehicle, which will probably take about 3 years. It will be my only vehicle. My work commute is 1 mile each way but I do a fair amount of traveling.

Any hesitation purchasing one of these with 200k miles? Anything to look out for? Anyone say hell no dont do it?
Thanks,
William

Kind of surprised I got no responses. Was really interested in owner feedback.

There are plenty of examples of 200,000 mile 100 series Land Cruisers and LX's out there. The 4.7 V8 is a solid engine, and it's built up one of the strongest platforms in the market. That said, I'd want to know the maintenance history to feel confident that it has been "treated better." You never know - it could have been driven by an old lady who didn't recognize a coolant leak in her radiator and ran the thing hot for an extended period. Or it's on its original timing belt and water pump. No record of oil changes for 150000 miles - that kind of stuff.

These are trucks built to last 25 years, but they are not immune to maintenance needs. If you are handy enough to do some work on it then I wouldn't worry much, but I'd think less about total miles and more about records and specific maintenance work.

Get the VIN. Go to lexus, com to the owner's area. Input the VIN and make it your vehicle. You can now check for all services both done at a dealer as well as recommended services declined by the owner.

Post your original msg in the 100-series forum on ih8mud.com. I will guarantee you'll get responses.

The price sounds good to me.

I'd also want to get her up on a lift, pull the 2 skid pans, and take a close look for rust underneath.

A good newbie section at sleeoffroad, com with what to look for in a used 100-series.

hth. We need to see pics once you buy her.

Steve

As others have said, 200k miles is nothing if the maintenance records are there.
