Question Shipping Cars Overseas

So I was really bored and tried to locate where my old LX470 was. It was a 2001 with 160,000 miles and in fairly good shape. We got 10k on the trade in which we were ok with. I ended doing a search, and found out that the car was bought at an auction, left a port in Boston, and shipped to West Africa (Benin?). My question is, is the value of these SUVs, even the older ones, really that high to a point where a decent profit can be made shipping them thousands of miles to other countries? I ask because we have family in numerous countries who would love to buy a car here and have it shipped to where ever they are. We never pursued it because I always assumed it would have been cheaper to just buy one in that country. Does anyone have experience or input on shipping cars overseas? (Specifically Russia, the Philippines, and Cambodia). I was once told that the resale on Toyota/Lexus SUVs was high in part due to them being shipped out of the country, but assumed the sales person was just saying that. Maybe its true? Sorry if this is random, just figured I'd ask.

Hey Gray, i kind of have some experince in this field but to the middle east not Russia or africa.
i have bought 1999 LC100 2 years ago and have shipped it o middle east, was planning to keep it but then i decided to sell. sold it for almost 18400$. they are very popular over there and their prices is way higher than i sold it for. they use it for desert trips offloading etc. i regret selling it cuz it was great truck. anyway, i bought lx470 and will ship it soon, but this time i won't sell it. i will keep it for myself till it falls apart.
