Default VSC TRAK and Check engine light on but no codes have generated, please help...

Not good here. Car feels clunky and these lights came on. I checked for fault codes and there are none.
What can be the cause? Any recourse except going to the dealer? What kind of expense am I looking at?

My local Toyota dealer charges almost as much for shop rate as the Lexus dealer. I don't know any independent shops that specialize in Lexus. Bad start of the day...

What year vehicle and how many miles?

When that happened to me it was the upstream O2 sensor. If the check engine light is on, there is a code. Just about all the big parts places will run the codes for you.

If it is the O2 sensor, you can get them from places like RockAuto for less than $50 each. You want DENSO O2 sensors. There are 4 so you need the code to know which to get; 2 upstream, 2 downstream; up and downstream are not interchangeable; upstream is between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold and downstream is after the catalytic converter.. With a O2 removal/install tool you can do the job yourself pretty easily. The hardest part is the connector since it mounted with a clip and stuff is in the way. Just make sure you don't pull wiring to disconnect the sensor wiring.

Your heading said the check engine light and VCS was on. The VCS comes on for almost any engine control system failure. When you rechecked, had you driven the vehicle? many of the check engine lights do not latch. Usually the engine has to be at normal operating temperature so the engine is in open loop mode. If you have a higher end reader you can plug it in while its running and read the various settings.

Just as an FYI, while your issue may not be the O2 sensor and there is no reason to suspect it at this point with no codes.... the O2 sensor actually degrades with time. Most of us, me included, don't replace them until the check engine light says to. However, if you have a monitoring tool you can see that as the O2 sensor ages it looses its response time and there for its effectiveness. Trivia.

It has been my experience that if it is an 02 sensor you will get a fault code generated. You might want to remove your abs sensors and clean them because this can affect your drive system. My lx had the same problem and when I replaced the hubs the sensors were very dirty. This can give erroneous readings to the computer and cause problems in the system. I cleaned mine during the front end service and my lights have not come on again.

On my Landcruiser, a check engine light came on with a code telling me the 02 sensors were bad. Replaced them and problem went away.
