update from this morning post: Just heard from my Lexus mechanic Motor Works ( Cordovea TN), Says my they could see my Cam turning when they tried to start car L Yeah No Timing Chain issue obviosuly. But strange as my cyliinder heads were flooded with fuel. They cleaned them, put some oil in them, were able to get car back started and after smoke cleared, Engine ran like champ, not fumes or smoke etc. Just like it should. They used today as the vehicle to go get parts as official shop car. Could not so far get vehicle to shut down again as it did last night on highway. Drove severeal miles today and took out on I-40 ran during lunch 75 mph for hour round trip. Started, stopped, smooth lidle and stars etc.
Thought might be stopped up Cat. Converter ?? Trying to figure out and calling LX 40 mechanics whom may have heard of this. Strange. Would really like some comments if any one ever had this happen. They will keep the week and have told them to use the week and drive this weekend. My daughter car I wan to make sure does not happen again with her i possible. Any comments??
Thanks !!

Help!!! LX 470 Stalls at Low Idle????
LX owner here....
I have been having/had issues with my 2000 LX 470 stalling, once it has warmed up, at low idle [when I slow to stop or park]. I have also had issues with check engine lights going on, vehicle stalls at low idle, and minor issues with height control lately. What did you end up doing? Anybody know a good course of action - DIY if possible. Really hope to hear back.
just got rid of my land cruiser that had 325,000 miles and plan on taking my LX there too [at 210k now]..this vehicle is still too nice a ride to get ride of amazingly enough...

Hello all,
New to the forum. I have a 98 lx470 that I bought about a year ago. I found it with 40k miles on it. Put 285 on it, took off the running boards, leveled out the air suspension, and that's about it.
Just recently bought a 98 gs300 for my wife. So if this was 1998 I would be a real baller.
Just wanted to introduce myself.

Recently bought my 2001 Golden Pearl LX470 with 170k+ miles with decent maintenance history. The truck has an Ivory interior with navigation and Mark Levinson stereo. I'm currently base lining/catching up on PMs. I have a list of parts for Sewell Lexus to fill...
I plan on building the truck as a combo DD/camping rig. No plans for heavy off-road use currently, but plans change!
If anyone plans on returning their built rig to stock before selling, I may be interested in your aftermarket accessories. e.g. tires, sliders, front & rear bumpers, fridge, roof rack, etc.

My first Lexus. It's an 03 LX470, with 120K on it. Absolutely flawless inside with small scratch outside that i'm planning on taking care of after our baby is born in few weeks. It's in that "Lexus white pearl" color.

Update on timing chain issue
After having read some recommendations on this forum regarding timing chains I decided to replace it at 88,000 miles on my 2005 LX 470. Took it in to my long time mechanic and he replaced it for $900. So far, so good. About a week later vehicle died going around corner. It would not start after that so had it towed in.
Mechanic determined timing chain must have been defective. Replaced it. So far, so good.
Apparently car was then started without oil and valves were burned and head damaged. After about a week, car was repaired again. So far, so good.
Then battery in car in bay next to mine exploded and got battery all over my vehicle. Now it has to be repainted on side of car. My vehicle is still with painting shop.My rent car is now several hundred dollars and register still running.
No point to this story but would think twice about changing timing chain just to be changing it.

New LX470 Owner/CL Member
Greetings, All
Just found a ridiculously clean '06 Pearl White LX470 with 113k. Southern truck. Clean carfax. Checked out at Lexus prior to purchase as well as at local reputable body shop here in my hometown of Kansas City.
This is a third vehicle for the family. Primary roles will be kid/dog/odd job hauler as well as road trip vehicle.
Engine overdue for 90k service with timing belt and water pump. Any thoughts if ok to take to a Toyota dealer instead of Lexus? Cost difference? Pros and cons?
Will also be needing new tires. Lots of good info and reviews on tirerack.com - but curious what y'all think is best tire for around town/highway and occasional snow. No plans for mud or off-road.
Also, what octane fuel do you guys run?
Thanks!

G'Day from New Zealand
Hi all.
I've just bought a 2002 LX470. In New Zealand, the 4.2 diesel Landcruiser is held in such high regard that the 2002 or thereabouts Landcruisers are about NZ$10,000 ( about US$8800)MORE expensive than the Lexus version. This prompted me to buy the Lexus and get an LPG kit fitted. This means it's about 20% cheaper on fuel to run than a six cylinder diesel. The cost of the LPG conversion is about half the price difference, so even after that is fitted, there's still a good saving. Plus you get the all the usual Lexus luxuries.
If anyone is is interested, I'll write up about how the LPG and petrol (gasoline to the USA'ers) performance compares. I do about 25,000 miles a year. 20% on that is a worthwhile saving.
Regards
Nigel
