heater/ac fan motor whine
have an '05 lx 470 that developed a constant, high-pitched whine from the heater/ac fan motor area (beneath the glove compartment) while on low to med-high fan settings about a month ago (120k mi). goes completely away on the high setting. changed out the fan motor but still doing the same thing. changed the cabin filter 20,000mi ago so it shouldn't be affecting it as someone suggested w/ an rx 330. will drive you crazy but having the fan on high all the time is no better. is this a relay/module problem? any idea on what needs to be changed and how? thanks for any help!

Take a look at the resistor block for the fan. Make sure you aren't pickup alternator as well; sometimes it can feed back into the power. Most have a capacitor somewhere to prevent that, but it the capacitor goes bad. I have this issue and hear the noise but it doesn't really bother me enough to go searching for the noise source.

replaced my fan with an aftermarket unit for $60. Needed to remove plastic fan to reuse on new blower. heated the fan with hot air gun to remove without breaking fan. Noise is gone and fan works fine
