Default removal of lexus steering colomn to replace ignition lock assembly

on removal of the steering coloum to replace the shaft under the ignition key assembly, tried to punch tamper proof screws from old ignition assembly fairbit of hammering could not get them out so instead took the new shaft out of the new part and placed in the old lock assembly. replaced the broken shaft had the steering colum upside down and moved it about a fair bit placed colum back in vehicle connected up all electrics everything worked car started but when it come to connecting the steering shaft to the universalon the floor i have found that even with the electric telescopic shaft all the way down to the floor i find that it will not connect because its extends too short by 100mm or 1". is there anybody who has had the same or similar problem or come up with any answers for me plase contact me on terrygturner@yahoo.com.au or 0417463234 thank you
