OK, I'll bite. How so?

I don't prefer the 570 over the 470 because I dislike the body shape and the tail lights. I think the 470 has a more classic look. Still, I could never classify the 570 as "horrible."

LX570 is a great truck, but the tail lights are horrible. I feel your pain....

I agree with you but not all the way. LX 470 is one of the most dependable and capable vehicle in the market but it was designed in mid 1990's. 06 and 07 are the cream of the LX 470; even though rest of the older lineup is fantastic too. But bottom line is LX 470 looks outdated. In previous 5 years of ownership of lx 470, I had zero issues with LX 470, which is amazing. I also own a German car, which has horrible reliability (selling it after warranty runs out + huge depreciation).
On the other hand LX 570 is a newer unit; designed in mid 2000's. It reflects all the new improved/enhanced technology (interior design/materials, mechanical, exterior etc..). ..570 look’s fresh. Even though I like my 2006 LX 470 every bit; I would replace it with 570 if I find used one for reasonable price. These are my 2 cents.

I had a deposit on a 570. When it came to the dealership I went to see it in person, test drove it. And grabbed one of the remaining 470 stock (trading in my 98).

I've addressed this before. Looks like the Highlander all grown up. My 2 cents.

The exterior of the LX470 is a timeless design. Classic elegance. I'd love to have one; too bad the acquisition price is so high ... seemingly regardless of age and mileage. It's a rig that I've admired for so long that it's almost silly!

The interior on the LX470 is another matter. While it's not bad, I think it's dated and lacks many modern amenities offered in other cars and Lexus. No dual climate control. Switch to move your exterior radio antenna higher and lower. No A/C seats. Flip down 3rd row set-up was borrowed from the original '60's FJ. Tape deck! Etc, etc, etc.

LX570 or LX470? Gimme me the big time speed advantage of the 570. No question.

LX570 or new QX56? I'd have to test drive them, but I like the idea of saving ~$10K and getting arguably a better looking SUV with the Infiniti.

The QX56 is quite a bit bigger than the LX570.

I test drove the LX570 but didn't like it either. It sounds funny to say this, but the dashboard is too overwhelming. I do like the tail lights though.

Anyway, likes and dislikes are too subjective. We don't know if the OP is referring to the aesthetics, ergonomics or the capabilities of the vehicle.

not sure how it hurts to buy the newest you can afford. 570 all day everyday for me. this doesn't mean i won't take the 470 because it's yet another lexus vehicle you can grow old with

I like the L-H manual transfer case shift lever in the 470. Electronic switches just don't seem to be as reliable, especially if you haven't used the low t-case gear in a long time. The only major "flaw" in the design of the 470 is the driver should be able to control the fan speed and temp of the rear climate control rather than just the on-off switch. Ideally, the 2nd and 3rd row could be set independently of one another. IMHO, the best years for the 470 are '04...has the 5spd tranny and 18" wheels, yet is still made by Araco. After '05, Toyota bought out Araco and a bunch of 30+ yr landcruiser assembly veterans retired. I have photos from the '06 landcruiser/470 Toyota assembly line and mostly see 20-something year olds. There are more complaints from '05+ landcruisers/470's on the ih8mud forum than earlier rigs....more creaks, poorer quality AHC height sensors, etc. If your rig is made by Araco, there will be a sticker somewhere indicating so (either under the hood in the back PS corner or somewhere in the PS door).

PS: agree that 470 looks better than the 570. 570 just seems odd, looks to have less ground clearance (maybe it's just the way the rear looks). Salesman at the dealer where I bought both of my rigs was telling me he also thinks the 470 looks better. At least you can install aftermarker steel bumpers on the 470.

I would rathe have the 570, but to be honest, an 07 470 with the driveline and tech of the newest 570 would be the perfect combination for me in a monotone black

I echo Jim as well - the Araco-built trucks were noticably better made. Both the initial and long-term quality. I have (and had) both.

The looks: I agree the 570 does not have the instant beauty the 470 has, and 450 for that matter. When I first saw the 570 I did not like the looks either. Awful tail lights. Looks like a Highlander (and I own a Highlander as well) But the looks are very, very understated. The body lines and angles all seem weird compared to the smooth and elegant 450 and 470. But I urge you to keep looking. Notice one moving in traffic. Notice one parked in a public lot. The 570 actually has a subtle elegance that cannot be seen if you just stare at the details. It's definitely a look that not everyone will warm up to, but take a try. Kind of like a beautiful woman with a big nose. Sure she has a big nose...but the rest of the lines are there. Let me know what you think.

If I say any more I'll pretty much start sounding like I'm bashing the 570, or a 470 fan-boy.

But to be honest with you I kept looking for a few years now also thinking that as time goes by I might start seeing it in a better light. I even test drove one again. But the looks still look unpleasant to the eye, and it still drives remarkably like a 470 on-road. So waiting for the next gen to come out before deciding wether to stay on the platform, or go to something like Merc G550 which stayed more truthful to the formula I like. In a weird way the 470/570 thing made me more appreciative of the Mercedes honesty and keeping the vision.
