06 LX470 vs 06 Land Cruiser (driving dynamics)
I was wondering if anybody has driven both the 06 LX470 and the 06 Toyota Land Cruiser equipped with the optional air suspension. For a long time the LX470 was separated form the Land Cruiser by the air suspension. Now that the 06 Land Cruiser offers it there doesn't seem to be much difference to me (even in price).
How does the drive of the 06 LX470 compare 06 Land Cruiser w/ air suspension? I drove an 06 Land Cruiser and it felt very smooth and quiet, but it also felt very floaty and boat like (very underdamped suspension). I'm used to driving SUV's and trucks too. Does the Lexus LX470 feel similar?
On the Land Cruiser the one thing I didn't mess with was the suspension setting. It was set in the "normal" setting. I didn't try it in "comfort" or "sport". This may have helped. Anyhow, just looking for some opinions on this.

I won't be surprised if the Toyota Land Cruiser with AHC has the same torsion bar, springs and dampers as the LX470. When I first drove my 06 LX470 I thought it was floating and underdamped as well. But when viewed from the ouside while running, you will see that the suspension is moving and soaking all the bumps on the road hence the floating feel. Try to adjust the damper setting next time they make a huge difference.

Like most lexus vehicles, the LX isolates you from the driving experience. I got a chance to test drive the GS and the Infinity M back to back, and the GS is really quiet and numb inside compare to the M which is like a sports car.
I took the LX through a winding coastal road and the body roll was moderate even on sports mode. Steering was a bit light weighted but it was very responsive and nimble, overall handling is good for a truck.
It is just amazing that how much ride quality and feel can be found by changing a damping, springs and added insulation on the same basic suspension design/layout (IFS and SRA). I have driven quite a few SUVs and pickups (import and domestic), but none of them have that feel of the LX and the GX on the road.
