Default Gas mileage

I just got back from a round trip from a northwest Chicago suburb to Minneapolis. 800 miles tound trip.

On the way up, the computer indicated I got 16.8 mpg, and on the trip home, I got 19.1mpg!!! I couldn't believe it. That was with two adults, two kids, AC on the whole time and a moderately loaded vehicle. No towing.

Average speed was between 71-73mph.

I was pretty impressed.

............for a 5600lb vehicle that faces the wind like a brick wall at highway speeds, here's some food for thought:

Cruising in the 70-75mph range on the freeway, I can average (and have averaged) 26 to 27 mpg with my LS 400!! ....with my previous Acura MDX, which weighs around 4500lbs, I would average 23 to 24mpg in the same speed range, and on the same highway run (L.A. to Las Vegas and back) ......BTW, I NEVER go by what the TRIP COMPUTER says. I have found that for the most part it is ridiculously inaccurate, and it almost always indicates 1.5 to 2.5 mpg higher than the ACTUAL gas mileage!! The only real way to calculate mileage is to fill up the tank to the brim and then drive till it's nearly emply, see the exact # of miles covered, and then divide it by the # of gallons it took to fill it up again.

The mpg computer is accurate on the GX470 as long as you subtract 2 mpg from the number. My vehicle which has the same computer that is used in the LX470 shows that I get 19.2 mpg and when I hand calculate it is 17.2. I have found it is alway 2 mpg off.

So when I was towing my boat down to Missouri earlier this summer, and the trip computer indicated 10mpg, I was really getting 8mpg?!

Acura MDX is a 3.5L V-6 vehicle compared to the LX/LC 4.7L V-8, no? I would expect greater gas consumption out of the larger engine so that doesn't surprise me. For me, 17-19mpg is pretty darn good in the LX. If I'm cruising downhill with a strong tailwind I can probably get into the mid 20s

I'm hoping this considered the same subject, but what pressure should I keep on my stock tires (Bridgestone Dueler H/T 275/60/18) to maximize fuel economy? Ride comfort isn't that important to me.

36 psi cold should give you the best of both worlds.

Agreed .. 36 PSI cold all around and 40 PSI cold in the spare. This way you have adjustment pressure for the spare, if needed.
