Default ABS Trac lights coming on?? Help!?

Has anyone had issues w/their ABS and trac lights coming on? The vehicle stalls sometimes. The lights are on at times and then not. When they are not on, the vehicle has a tendency to buckle during accelleration. I am usually only driving 30mph or so? Any suggestions? Thanks

is it just the trac light or does the abs light come on as well.
either go to the dealer to get the error codes or buy a scanner and get the codes so that the techs on this site can help you out further.
with the onboard diagnostics, at times one light coming up could mean several different things.
keep us posted.
good luck.

i had a similar situation on my lx470. i had no acceration and the trac light came on as well as abs. it turned out to be the trottle body. the lexus dealership order the part for about 950.00 and installed it. it came out to about 1150.00

good luck.

just out of curiousity.....do you have a k&n filter or something like it installed? i was told that sometimes the oil from those filters cause problems for the trottle body.

I have a 2002 LX470 with this exact same problem. Usually only happens in the mornings and when the weather is cold and/or wet. VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights on the dashboard come on (car seems to stall a little when they come on) when you give it gas the lights go out. Matter of fact this morning they came on every time I slowed down. The lights must have come on 10 times in a 10 minute drive to bring my kid to school...and the reason I am looking for an answer to why on ClubLexus. I have had the dealer check this out a lot and each time I get a different answer. One time they said something behind the dash was getting wet because I had an aftermarket windshield and I replaced the windshield ($1500.00)...not happy now that I paid for an actual Lexus windshield and the problem still exists. Now they are telling me the item behind the dash needs to be replaced and it will cost somewhere between $1000 and $1500 and it might not actually be the problem. I can't keep replacing pieces of this car to try and fix a problem that isn't so bad I need to keep buying new parts. Getting annoyed with my dealer (Concord Lexus in Concord, CA.). I did have the throttle body cleaned at one point and the problem did seem to go away for about 6 months but now it is back again. I guess I'll look into getting a new throttle body.

when the lights vsc light and abs light came on, it was when i was in high elevations in 30 degree temp. so it was cold and the engine was cold. when i let it sit for a few minutes, the lights disappeared and the car drove perfectly.

try checking the junk yard for a trottle body off of a lx or land cruiser. i bet it will take care of the problem. it's not the dash.

don't rely on factory mechanics, they are mostly a joke. go to independant specialist shops (they are usually trained factory mechanics that knew more than their service writers and started their own shop). I found that dealer mechanics like to swapt out parts rather than trouble shoot. after all, you foot the bill and it saves them time.

I may need to look for an independant shop, although in the past the dealer has taken pretty good care of us. They replaced the tranny on our 1999 RX300 after my wife *****ed asking why a tranny on a "luxury vehicle" needed to be replaced after only a few years of driving. We only had to pay for the install but the tranny itself was around $3500. I think labor was only $900. After a few more issues with the RX we traded it for our LX (which is my wife's car). I drive a '96' ES300 that seems to be bullet proof, has over 230,000 miles on it and drives like a dream.

I'll most likely just replace the throttle body with a new one, I also need to replace the DVD player portion (the one under the pass. seat) of our NAV that went out a few months ago. That is $1400 just for the part. I'll get it all done at once but now that Christmas is coming paying $3000 for NAV and a throttle body is just going to have to wait. Where in California are you jazz? I'm in the San Francisco area, if you know of a good local independant shop I'd love to know who? My days of trapsing through junk yards ended once I sold my Datsun 510 15 years ago. I've never seen a Lexus in any of our local junk yards any way.
