And personally, I think your car is a better looking car than the 10-12 600. I hate that hybrid grille, and overall I prefer the 07-09 styling to the 10-12.

  • Vibrating massage for both rear seats
  • Styling tweaks in and out
  • the cool TFT instrument panel
  • USB integration
  • Device agnostic voice dial
Here's what you'll lose:
  • Rear seat cool box
  • $30k
  • peace of mind knowing your car is the way you want it
  • Panache of having the first MY of the 600h
  • did I mention the $30k?

Even the 2013 removes the Advance Parking system but adds the mouse controller; bigger screen, cross traffic alert, blind spot warning, Lexus Enform, and even more styling. I'd save your pennies and wait for 5LS.

Re the last two pluses on the 2012; the USB integration for that year from Toyota is really not good; the lists are slow to scroll if you have lots of songs and the interface needs work. I bought the USB/Aux connector from the 2010 and wired it into the Vaistech box for my 2008 and have been very happy with the results; looks totally stock.

Nothing until 2014 will have Siri Eyes free; which I remedied by buying this and velcroing to the side of the steering wheel behind the volume and voice command buttons:

Satechi Home Button.

Best $25 I ever spent. Siri dials the phone; reads me my text messages; and keeps me company on the long drive home.

Jainla and everyone else who chimed in: THANKS for your quick responses and "voices of reason!" I think deep down I knew the right answer, but it's always nice getting second opinions, and the people who contribute to this forum are one amazing bunch!

Sorry to NoSpinZone that the discussion ended so quickly before you could chime in

The blue-tooth "Home" button from Amazon looks really handy! I've never seen that item before, and I'm kind of an Amazon Junkie (in addition to the LS Forum). I have one of the new Apple Watches, though, and so I now have Siri available on my wrist at all times, so I don't think I need the extra button access (love the watch, but that's a story for another forum).

I do think I prefer the overall exterior look of the 2008 to the 2012--someone pointed out the "hybrid grill" which I never really thought about, but do agree it doesn't look very good. I really lust after the display on the 2010-2012 600's, though. I think it's going to be pretty tough finding many 2013-2014 LS600s for sale on the used market, since the production has basically fallen off the cliff on the later year models (I heard Lexus is only selling around 8-10 per month at this point).

Oh well, I still smile when I sink into the buttery soft leather seat in my 2008, and can't help but look back and admire my car when walking away from it in a parking lot. That's a good sign that I still love my car!

I'd keep yours and possibly look into the 2013+ model in the near future. The minor changes between 2010-2012 aren't worth it. Besides the pre facelift look is better

Also, from what I've read here on these forums, the 2007-2009 mark levinson has better bass response. I do like the 2010-2012 600hl LCD gauge cluster though.

Nothing to add, but I thought I owed riknchar a response (since, after all, he's one of the [guilty] folks responsible for my "upgrade"). I was looking for 2010-12 at the time, mainly because of some of the updates and also to get a car with some of the fixes I had already applied to my '08 460L (I personally didn't want to deal with the '08 story again). However, I have to agree that the trade, especially at this point, isn't a good decision $-wise.

This, my friend, is hostile language.

CAHA14: Are you saying I "inspired" you to purchase an LS600hL ? I'm sure you've never looked back, though -- the 600 is truly the Flagship!

I really should ban myself from AutoTrader surfing... It only gets me into trouble...

I do appreciate everyone's input on the pro's and con's of the 2012 vs the 2008! What a great forum!

Yes! In fact, when I announced the arrival last year, I believe I openly blamed, I mean, gave you and others credit for motivating me to come up with an excuse to convince my wife that I needed this vehicle!

Incidentally, I should turn off my AutoTrader and cars.com notification emails...

LOL! As soon as I bought my car, my wife said, "No more looking!" So I disabled my Cargurus, alerts, but keep, um, forgetting to turn off Autotrader. She caught me looking at pictures of an LS460 this morning. Fortunately, it was mine!

So I just noticed that the price on the LS600hL from Lexus of Akron has now dropped all the way down to $53K!

With the sage advice of many of my forum friends, I had convinced myself that upgrading to the 2012 from my 2008 was not a smart idea, but that was when the price was at $60K for the 2012... Starting to get a bit more feasible at $53K... Wonder what their bottom-line price would be? $50k?

As some pointed out, though, the car does lack the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which is unfortunate. But for someone who could live without that feature, the price is starting to get pretty attractive (1 owner, average miles, CPO, etc.). Hmmmm.....

I hear you. After I bought mine, I had my moments where other cars came up that were "slightly newer" or a "better color" or "better priced" or whatever.

There are some nice updates in the newer model, as you know (though I wish I had the coolbox I had in my 460L). However, in my opinion, a 600 without certain options (dynamic cruise in this case) is like a garden without flowers. If we were talking about trading to a car with the same or more options than you have, that'd be one thing, but honestly, it sounds like you have a great vehicle. Save the $ (and use a small part of it to buy me dinner when I'm in town, just for this service, LOL).

I have to admit I'm still harboring some thoughts that the 2012 (for $53K or less) would be a worthwhile upgrade to my 2008 (even without the Radar cruise)...

When I look up the book value of the 2012 CPO with 39K miles, I get:

Edmunds: $74, 096
NADA: $69,000
KBB: $61,343

Quite a spread, as usual... But for $53K as a certified 1-owner with a great service history, I could almost swallow taking the depreciation hit on mine to upgrade.

I've got a call in directly to the dealer in Akron to get an idea of what they'd be willing to give me in trade for my 2008-- my local Lexus dealer has already offered $30K. I think if I could get the trade difference below $20K, it just might be worth making the jump, despite the relatively minor changes between the 2008 and 2012 models.

Any other thoughts from the forum? As always, thanks for your advice! Rick

Sorry if you've mentioned this, OP, but are there reasons beyond the low mileage/CPO and extended warranty possibilities and more recent model year that you find compelling about the 2012 LS600 you're considering? I preferred the 2010 over the 2009 MY because of the better bluetooth and iPod integration, reportedly better NAV and more reliable ML, and improved Comfort Plus package, but if I could have found a 2009 CPO with DRCC and ML, I might have changed my mind.

If you like the car, go for it!. I personally think 2012 models will be relatively trouble free than pre 2010 models.
