Default Anyone ever shopped around for recall work?

I'll soon be proceeding with my recall. I'm considering shopping around to see if I can get a "deal" on my recall. I'm looking to get an update on my Nav and thought about asking for a free update if I give them the work. However, my impression is that these jobs don't generate much revenue for the dealers, and may not be successful. That said, from what I understand, the NAV update is cheap for the dealers since it simply involves the half hour of labor or so to hook up the computer and download the software, plus the cost of the software to them.

Comments?

I'd be surprised if dealers fight over each other to do the recall. From what I understand they get only paid for specific time to do the work so they have to work fast if they don't want to start loosing money. This recall is also pretty time consuming with barely no part to change (do they actually collect a markups for parts related to recall work ? If so there no money for that regarding that recall). Also they might be able to pull a fast one on customer and charge more for work, but not on Lexus. I'd be interested to know how it turn out though. Good luck

Yea, and I suppose you want a free full tank of gas too! (BTW, my dealer did fill my tank when I recently had the fuel recall done)

I don't think recalls are much of a money maker for a dealer. However, you could always ask. They might give you a token 10% discount just as a goodwill gesture.

I got the free tank of gas, but because of the snow I didn't get the car wash. I paid for the new Nav update, but it was roughly $99 and tax. Not even sure it was worth it, but I'm up to date!

How, did you get that for 99. My dealer recently told me it would come to about 300 to get it installed?!?
