best way to black out my lexus
just wondering what people have tried to black out chrome on their cars, over been researching the topic and haven't found much information because i do not want to use plastic dip as it looks cheap and will peel. I'm looking to match the color to 2015 ls460 f sport rims in factory gloss black too.
specifically i want to black out my front grill and rear emblems and do not want it to look cheap
any suggestions?

I plasti dipped my grille over a year ago, and it never peeled. Went through the worst winter in history and car washes every week without issue. Looks like I did it yesterday. Also can't tell it isn't paint unless you stick your nose against the grill but to each his own. Cost $5.99

What do you have to lose by trying it, other than a few bucks? If you don't like how it looks, peel it off.

my grill is currently plastic dipped and after the winter the matte black looks like it has faded quite a bit. i also had my wheels plastic dipped and if not done right you can see certain overspray which is what i didn't like. have they ever made a gloss black plastic dip? the ones that i tried using is the matte black plastic dip and the gloss which did not work out will because it was not glossy at all.

Just as in any paint work, preparation is the key to success. Make sure that it's clean and free of grease before spraying it on.
You could always have it wrapped, but there are other issues there. You're at the mercy of the person doing the wrapping and if they know what they're doing.
I think that your best bet is using plastidip, as far as cost to benefit ratio. If you want to change it back, then just peel it off and it's back to stock.
If cost isn't a concern, then have them sprayed by a body shop.
Good Luck!

another option for you would be getting some/most of the parts vinyl wrapped. i am doing a black on white theme and have used gloss black vinyl for the roof, window trim, rear lexus emblem, and chrome strip under the rear emblem. you could easily do this with your door handles and grille also. i didn't do this because i'm going to color match some parts of the grille and handle white. with vinyl, you save money and can easily go back to stock after if you have to...

The downside is that you're at the mercy of the talent of the person doing the wrapping. I suggest doing your due diligence and find a good one the will wrap it up around the edges so that it doesn't want to unwrap.
