It is pretty cool looking...I'll probably permanently remove my covers when I finally get sick of taking them off to work under them...or when I lose all my clips...whichever comes first.

I have been using CD2 for detailing but is no longer available. Switched to Griot's engine dresser. No complaints. ( )

Nice! I really want to clean mine up but I'm afraid to hose it down and it's so dirty, that's what it really needs. You gotta clean up your IS' headlights next. Any headlight lens cleaning kit would work and it will make your car look 100x better.

It's a great looking engine. I can envision some enhancements to that compartment to make it look even better.

1. Some kind of covers for the air boxes. Billet? Carbon Fiber? Or painted?
2. Leaving the passenger, drivers side and firewall engine covers in place to hide the messy bits, while leaving the center and front covers to show off the intakes?

I use the factory covers I usually take them off twice a year to clean underneath and that was what I was showing.

Is it a safe action to literally spray the under portion of the hood, with all of the electrical connections and everything else underneath?

Modern car engines are water tight however I would only wash an engine with di-onized water because once tap water evaporates it will leave behind mineral stains.

What ever you do, don't ever use any cleaners like simple green as they are known to be corrosive on aluminum and magnesium parts.
What I would do personally is just don't do any cleaning at all because there is no point to it. The most I will do is remove large stray debris like leaves or twigs when change the air filters and a quick wipe with a rag.
I would clean the engine cover and surrounding trim and then apply vinyl protector.

To be very honest this engine has so much junk on top in the way of electronics and plastic bits that you cant even make out the engine. It's no wonder that it has a full engine cover and the best thing about it is that it's honest.
if you look at some of the other engine cover designs they use fake mechanical bits that resembles a plenum which is ricey as the fake exhaust tips you find on the ISF.

I purchased my veh from a 2nd owner CPO, he spent lots of $ w Lexus keeping the car up but was not a gearhead like me and the underhood was neglected. I removed the covers at the pre sale insp. and knew right off that I was looking at 70K miles of driving with no attention under the hood.
No problem as the maintenance records vouched that the car was mech maintained. I got it home and the very next day I spent about 2 hours making her look like I wanted her to.
BLUF its a personal thing. I couldn't own a veh. and not maintain under the hood. U can use cleaners as long as all residue is taken off with clean rinse water and whats left standing I use LOW press. compressed air to deal with that...
