Default A surprise

Obviously I don't read manuals. So today I'm leaving the gym. It's raining and I open the car door and hop in. My hands are full with head phones and gym card so the door doesn't shut all the way. Then I see the door close itself. WHAT? On the way home at every light I opened the door and let it close itself. I was like a little kid.

I never knew I had this feature. How freakin cool is this? Wow.

Really??? Wow....how long have you had your LS for? My LS only has the soft close trunk......my 7 series had the soft close doors, but my LS does'nt. I don't really miss it though, as the LS takes so little effort to fully engage them.

I've had the car since mid October. It's an 08. Keep in mind I average 350 miles a month and I've never had the situation arise like today. It's not a necessary feature for sure. But wuitevthe nice surprise.

I use it almost every time I shut my door. I've become accustomed to barely shutting my door.

It's funny because its definitely not a "make or break" feature, but very "cool" None the less.
The last time I was at Lexus, while awaiting the valet to pull up my car after the recall service was done, I wandered over and took a look at a 2015 GX, and to my surprise, two things:
Perhaps I'm just that out of the car loop, but I didn't realize they wanted nearly 100k for that thing!
2nd: I was surprised that the flagship suv didn't have that feature. Perhaps it's not neccessaey on an suv, but I was still a bit surprised by that fact.
Another thing, per Tee's advice, I put a movie into the player and listened to it on the Levinson...I was nearly shocked at how the system transformed it's ability to produce sound at a home theater quality.
Quite impressive.

The very first thing I did when I got my car home was go grab a DVD. The first movie staring me in the face was Independence Day. When the THX into came on, I was blown away. Then at the beginning of the movie, the FX took my breath away.

Roadfrog - I would be surprised if yours didn't have this feature. I thought they all had it.

Haha, I showed my realtor the feature back in 2008 on her 2007 LS460 and she was amazed. She had no idea.

I like it because you can eliminate all door slamming sounds, which adds to the serenity of the car. But it is tough to keep passengers from slamming the doors even when you show them the feature before they get in the car. Plus, the car makes a reassuring thud when you don't use the feature.

The soft closing doors on my LS are great and will spoil you. You tend to expect this feature on other nice cars.

RZ:

I can absolutely attest to your experience!
I wont say that I was doubting the system, but I had my reservations, although slight. Independence Day had to sound incredible! I don't buy many movies myself and the ones I do have (the few I have) are Blu-ray. So I grabbed an old Wahlberg flick-Shooter. As you said, as soon as the movie begins...you notice the sound transform right away. I tried to find a scene with action and man oh man...all I could do was shake my head.

+1 here...
That or when my wife drives it on occasion. I was on the phone with her the other day while she was exiting the car and going into the store and heard the door slam. I responded in angst: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING! DO NOT SLAM THOSE DOORS! Your LS driving privileges are over!".

What's funny is every time I find something new about the car, I go grab my wife to show her. When I dragged her out to the garage and let the door soft close, she just shook her head and walked back into the kitchen.

I can't wait to find something else!!
