I saw one on Ebay yesterday and I think it was 75 bucks. I'll take another look....

Found it:

there are plenty of them on Ebay

Here's another and it's cheaper:

Also....quality speakers can be refurbished. Either re-foamed or voice coil repaired. Something to consider. I would not substitute an aftermarket speaker except as a last resort and only THEN. with a pair - one in each front door to balance out any anomalies. If it were me, I'd get it repaired.

Once again, RoadFrog to the rescue!
This is great information to know. That price difference is simply staggering!

Salvage is the way to beat the system.
On another note I'm quiet disappointed to see that the ML uses 6X9 speakers.

Yeah, the "Mark Levinson" system was made Harman (JBL). Probably subbed out to the lowest bidder in China now. Those speakers are worth about $50.00. Unfortunately, they are designed to match the rest of the system (efficiency, frequency response), so there's no real aftermarket alternative.

Edit: Added interesting (if sad) history on ML:

Its just like everything else you see in the market like Zeiss lenses that are made by Sony. The real deal is expensive and the rest is just name. When companies like JBL and Marantz were small time they commanded a lot of respect but once they got bought up by the conglomerates they live on in name only and answer to their shareholders.
My stock system may not sound anywhere near the ML but at least it's made by Fujitsu Ten which makes some of the most reliable factory systems.

If the that speaker is like the ML sub it can't be repaired. I called all over to repair the sub, everywhere said either no repair parts or just too expensive to fix.

I did find a replacement on eBay, but make sure the person offers warranty. As the first sub I got was blown

Here's a writeup I did a few years back. I blew one and replaced them both with upgraded and until this day, Im more than satisfied. This particular set is a little hard to find now but I'd go with a 6x9 seperate (component) and just use the sub unless you want to install the tweeter as well.

Red face

The dealership prices are outrageous and used speakers can be risky after installing it just to find out it's blown. No aftermarket substitute speakers for ML(the best system I've ever heard). I had the same issue with my Bose system and ended up at the dealership.

The Ebay ones I mentioned come with a money-back warranty for 30 days. Either way, Ebay protected and a near zero risk to buy them. I think I'd still repair it if it were me, and there are many shops and online services that will do so. Re-wiring a voice coil or re-foaming is basic stuff for them.

Chris: For future reference, can you recommend any shops that re-wire voice coils and re-foam driver cones?

There's these guys that sell foam kits for our speakers (specifically for Lexus 6x9):

http://www.simplyspeakers.com/lexus-...edge-kits.html

Or they will do it for you for 35 bucks with a one year warranty.

Also, there is thread you can refer to, where a repair was done to the spider: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post7742308

I would call Simply Speakers (at the link I provided) and ask them about voice coil repair.
