Recall Alert - fuel lines
#16
There are very few cars that I have come across that don't have any recalls. Some like the BMW get recalled because of an actual wide spread safety problems.
Toyota on the other hand has had safety recalls in the absence of anyone experiencing any issues or unfortunate catastrophes.
It could be that somewhere along they felt that a change in the fuel lines based on a study indicated that it could be a potential risk and they set about improving the design. After that they probably made the call to reduced the liability and the potential damage to their reputation.
All cars have some degree of design flaws that could potentially be a safety issue and how a company goes about handling it is far more important rather then burying it in hopes of paying the odds.

Got in touch with the Lexus service department. They told me they'd call me back on Monday next week to set up the appointment. They had to order the parts. It's going to take roughly 4 hours and I get a full tank of gas. That means I need to be doing some driving over this week and weekend since I just filled up not too long ago.

brought the car in last night, and they told me that it was a 3 hour job to complete the task and that all employees had to watch a video before they started on the car regarding this recall...
should be picking it up to day after they finish the recall and my 30K service!

I was told the same thing and have not yet received the second "bring it in now" letter.
