I've been driving to and from work during the past week, and it would be hard to imagine something more comfortable without actually inducing sleep. I literally arrive more relaxed than when I got in the car at the beginning of the trip, but am not sleepy. Heart rate is low and I feel at ease. I smile as I get out, admire the car, and realize that I made the right choice out of all the options I was considering. I averaged 30MPG driving home from work today, which absolutely amazed me.

And last weekend 4 of us drove on a 100 mile trip. Everyone commented at how amazing the car is on the freeway, and I may even have made a future LS460 sale to the couple we drove with!

Bought my LS460L in Pembroke pines, FL and drove her back up to NYC. Rode like a dream and floated the whole way home. Very comfortable ride which held off the driving fatigue much longer than any other vehicle I've driven on a long road trip. I stopped in Atlanta so it was about a 1300 mile trip. Day 61 and I'm still in love!

Well, I have been lurking on this forum now for several months and the information available here helped me a lot in shopping for a LS430 or LS460. Initially I was going to buy a late model 430 but after looking for a while I decided the small price difference for a 2007 460 was worth it. Bought the car with 66,000 miles (pretty loaded, Nav, ML, door closers', parking assist, etc..) early last month and we took our first road trip a couple weeks later.

I wanted the big Lexus specifically because I thought it would make a good trip car as we travel between Ohio and Texas several times a year. The car has not disappointed! The ride was smooth, very quiet and very stable at all speeds. I had some issues with the Yokohama tires that were on the car when I bought it and ended up buying new Michelins (Energy A/S, P235/50R18) while we were in Houston. The Yokos were very quiet and rode well but at least one of the tires had a defect and I couldn't get a vibration balanced out. I hated to replace them so early (only 3-4,000 miles on them) but I didn't want to fool around replacing one tire at a time. Michelin has always been my tire choice for all my vehicles. Note: Two of the new Michelins' didn't need any weight to balance and the other two took very little.

Gas mileage was exceptional for such a large and heavy car, we averaged almost 27 mpg over the 3000 mile trip and I was always getting 28-29 mpg on the interstate usually 75-80 mph. Range was about 550 miles on a full tank. Was able to come from St. Louis to home in southern Ohio with gas to spare!

On top of everything, the trunk space in huge! We had been making the trip to Texas in our 2011 Mercury Mariner V-6 SUV but the 460 has a good deal more space than it does AND we got better gas millage! Bottom line, the car is very comfortable and my wife and I feel much safer in it as well.

I love taking my LS on road trips it's like driving my den! I have no road fatigue at all, I made two trips to Delaware and can honesty say I don't think I would have done that in any other car. The LS really shines on long road trips, it was built for the open road.

Will you often have passengers riding in the back?

If not, the standard SWB (short wheel base) version has plenty of room back there for the occasional rear seat passengers.

I would only consider the L variant if I was often driving a load of passengers.

The SWB gets better gas mileage and is easier to manouver in the city.

Randy. Thanks for the comments. I don't usually take many passengers but the wife and I are going to start a family. I was thinking the extra leg room would keep the kids from kicking the back of the front seats. I like to keep my vehicles looking spotless.

My wife does not like dark interiors due to the heat where we live.

..thanx for this thread & replies !!! I'm usually on CL in the Sc forum, I have an 02' SC430. I've started to look around at the 460's & thinking of purchasing one in the next 3-6 months. I've owned 3 Lexus, so I know the reliabilty of these cars.

I'm lucky enough to own both the SC430 (2009 Pebble Beach) and the LS600hL (2008), and I can say that it's a treat to get to pick between the two of these amazing automobiles every time I head for my garage to go somewhere. They are two very different beasts with very different designs, but each is the absolute best at its intended mission, in my opinion. Hope to have them both for many more trouble-free years!
