I have no issues with turbos if it is implemented well and doesn't have much lag.
The four cylinder BMW has lag and it makes up for it up top which is not smooth in the least.
I gave the BMW four cylinder the benefit of not prejudging it to see how well they can implement it and I came to the conclusion there was no great leap in technology that you are paying a premium for that made this engine on par with what they were previously offering so I walked.

The leap forward is 23 city 34 highway 27 combined MPG in the 4 and only 18/27/21 in the old 6. Thats 30% better fuel economy! To buyers today and in the world today thats important. If you don't care about economy, and don't care about price as you claim not to...why you would even consider the 528 is beyond me. You call it a downgrade, but the only reason I would buy a 528 is because I was looking for the lowest cost of entry and/or the most efficient car I could get in that model. One of my salespeople just got a 328...thats why he got the 328. Its the cheapest and he drives a lot and he wanted the best fuel economy he could get. To that buyer, 30% better fuel economy is an upgrade whether it costs them a little feel or not.

the 35 is just a MUCH better car in the 3 or the 5...its like the IS250 vs the IS350. If you drive an IS350...frankly the IS250 sucks. So...why not put a more efficient turbo 4 in it? As someone who would only consider a 35...I don't really care what they do with the 28...make it as efficient as you can for people who want that so I can still get my 35.

I think the point to take away with it is that I would be VERY surprised if the new LS still has standard V8 power...

Based on the Lexus navigation webpage (http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what-to-order/), there still will be 2015 LS460 and 2015 LS600hl. Both should have gen8 navigation. This is the only information about 2015 LS which I was able to find.

I just wanted to correct some misconceptions about the CAFE requirements.

A vehicle's CAFE rating is different from its EPA rating. Also the CAFE rating reflects the mix of products a manufacturer offers. In 2013, Toyota's imported passenger cars were at 46/48 mpg? Which is only a few MPG away from the 2025 standard.

A vehicle's cafe rating is pretty similar to the upper end of the old EPA highway rating. The window sticker on my LS430 says it can get 25 mpg, and most people will see between 22 and 29 mpg on the freeway. The LS430 was rated at 29 mpg for cafe purposes. And the LS460 is rated even higher.

Also, Toyota has done a great job of exceeding the standards in the years prior and their performance got them credits that they can sell to automakers who didn't do such a good job (Mercedes for instance) or they can use the credits in the future when they don't meet the standards.

But 40 mpg Corollas and 60 mpg Priuses make it really easy for Toyota to offer Lexus cars. Not to mention that CAFE ratings also reflect vehicle foot prints, so large cars like the LS aren't expected to hit MPGs that are as high.

Who knows about the direction Lexus takes. I own and love my 2001 LS430 - I got it because I wanted a the highest quality car that Toyota produced and I enjoy voluminous interiors as a rather large individual with large friends. But I kinda wish I had a v6 rather than a v8. The mpg at 25 mpg isn't bad, but it could probably be higher with a smaller engine. I'd totally consider a V6 Lexus LS in the future. However, I'm more interested in the space, quality, and operating costs than the badge or "prestige". I'd be just as content driving a long-wheel-base Lexus GS.

And I suppose the lexus ESs are fine but on the used market they're about the same price as the GSs and LSs in similar condition. They just don't strike me as a great value.

I would love a long wheelbase GS. In fact, Infiniti is making a LWD Q70 that I'm very interested in.

IMHO the ES is a new purchase. When I bought my ES's it was because I didn't want to buy used. if somebody is buying used already, I see no reason to get an ES over a GS or LS.

That's pretty much in line with the price of most other ultra-luxury cars. My LS back in 2011 was sticker'd at $87,000+. The point I am trying to prove is that the mere notion of having to comply with new CAFE standards will not elliminate luxury cars as we know it. It will change them, but different isn't always bad.

Screw CAFE. I want a twin turbo V-12 LS to compete with the S65. Putting a V6 in the LS would be outrageous, a sin, rubbish, an atrocity.

A reliable V12 with monster torque would be THE bomb. I'd be the first in line to buy one. Maybe I'd be the only one in line. Oh wait, just me = no line LOL

The new S600 and S65 are wonderful cars. Come on Lexus, man up.

Why is that when every other competitor has a V6 standard now? A buyer shopping for an LS is comparing it to all V6 vehicles...and in this day and age if anything that works against it because of fuel economy.
