Default Sticky carpet treatment under front floor mats?

Hi Folks,

I've had my 2012 LS460 for about 6 weeks, and this weekend I pulled out the floor mats for a good vacuuming. I noticed the front driver and passenger carpet under the mats is quite sticky, like some kind of high-friction treatment was applied. Makes vacuuming a real pain since lint and stuff tends to stick, and I think it will be hard to keep clean in general. This treatment is limited only to the driver and front passenger footwells, no where else.

Just curious, is this factory or was this added as part of a TSB? I noticed from the service records that the car had three separate warranty service events for floor mats. Maybe part of the Toyota 'unintended acceleration' fiasco?

I'm not aware of any such treatment by a dealer. Almost certainly that was something the previous owner applied.

You might try a scrubbing with Goo Gone.

Your friendly neighborhood detailer will have it gone in no time. They've got steam cleaners that can pull ANYTHING out of automotive carpet.

Dealers put in a sticky clear plastic wrap to protect the carpet until the car sells. Shouldn't leave a sticky residue but it seems in your case it did.

I have the same thing under my trunk mat which makes the carpet underneath feel tacky. My interior mats are fine.

my trunk mat does the same. Is it because the plastic is aging?
Is it very sticky.... impossible to clean. I do plan to get the car detailed. Will ask if they can steam it away.

Another one with the trunk mat. Sticky as anything. Regular floor mats are fine

Wow, your car looks beautiful, I don't think I've seen too many white ones with a little tint. Looks nice.
