Default '10-11 LS460 Sport vs '08 LS600hl

Which would you choose, and why? They're about the same price used. Obviously the 600 would have more standard options such as the radar cruise and rear seat hvac/entertainment. But is the Sport model that much more fun to drive with the ISF transmission and tuned suspension? Or does the additional hp and torque of the hybrid make it just as fast or faster?

mike, personally i don't think the sport is that much more fun, read my review on the 2013 f sport. it does handle better and brakes better, but i don't think the tranny is substantially different and i felt putting it in D is better than manual mode.

on the other hand, with the 600hl, it is lwb and more gadgets, but also means more chances of something breaking

overall, i think i will choose 600hl

I own a 2008 LS600hL, and I can vouch for the vault-like ride and unparallelled quality built into this "tank." The car is not "sporty" in the traditional sense, but can certainly generate serene amazing accelleration when pushed. If you' re after a BMW-type experience, it's probably not for you, but it is the ultimate large luxury sedan, and I've been extremely satisfied with my ownership experience.
Good luck!

I agree witcha, honestly IMO i feel these cars are too large to even be considered sport ( including the LS-F sport) In owning a 600 and with the sport button depressed ive noticed slight change in acceleration but when combined with the Power button there's a huge difference. Cornering with stock wheels ( mine has 18") was not the most thrilling thing ever but with my aftermarket wheels ( 22's) there was some enhancement but thats pretty much what i expected from a car this size. Just on speculation ( I've never driven or owned an LS-F only have reviewed what Lexus has on their website regarding the car's specification) i can't see much difference on the performance side of things between the two vehicles . Therefore, looking at getting the most bang for my buck and all of the features as possbile ill go with the 600.

I just went through this EXACT dilemma last month

I was 51% on the sport, but I couldn't find any clean and decent out there so I gave up. They are pretty rare.

I wanted the 600hL with exec seating, and that was super rare.

I ended up with something a little different

In your scenario, yes definitely the 600.

However, just for kicks here's a more apples-to-apples comparison.

Wink

Personally I would choose the 600h L over any LS 460 sport. The LS was initially introduce as a full size luxury sedan (LS) and not a sport sedan. The sport seems like an after thought and not up to par. But each to their own.

I know I could have just asked you Henry and I'd have the right answer, but I'm surprised there isn't at least one person on here who prefers the Sport! As you can tell, I'm all over the place for a potential car purchase. I've got all kinds of vehicles on the list, like the Tundra Pro and the Hellcats. And in the meantime, I'm just driving around in my old truck. It's crazy, I buy property all the time but can't make up my mind about a car!

hahaha, i have to be very honest. in my opinion, the initial sports were quite lame. the body kits were so add on, the brembo brakes were nice, but the performance just wasn't that wow. the 07-09 touring wasn't that impressive either. even the latest 2013 f sport, it's a much better execution imho, but still on the performance side i think it's not anything wow. after driving the IS and GS, i strongly believe it's in the chassis design

I just went through this exact process. CPO 2011 Sport vs. CPO 2010 600hL.
600: I didn't like the CVT feeling or the lag on launch. Higher cost special parts only used on the 600 combined with no real benefit in fuel economy or acceleration due to the extra mass. I did like the full leather dash, LED headlights, and many gadgets. Insurance cost probably higher. Cost was about $10k more with the same miles on the odometer.
460 Sport: Great mileage, sport when you want it but comfort when you need softness, leather door panels and console, nice matte wood, and Brembo brakes.

I worry about air spring reliability long term on both options, hopefully it would be covered under the CPO warranty. AWD would be nice for the 2-3 days per year I would use it, but there is the mass and fuel efficiency penalty for the 362 days I don't.
So, I picked a Mercury Metallic 2011 CPO 460 Sport. Just for fun, here is the 600 I was considering:
