I have thought long and hard about this, not sure if I wanted to give up a paid off car for a new expensive and untried piece of awesome technology but ultimate I did. Part of my reason was that I didn't want to pump gas ever again, the other reason being economic. I am sorry to say but my 2007 LS460L was slowly falling apart.
All repairs are either expensive or very expensive and it just wasn't worth it to me anymore. The only thing I miss is the cavernous rear seat, too bad ... I don't sit in the rear anyway

A non-exhaustive list of the repairs needed, it was a 2007 model with around 60K miles.
1) Folding mirrors, stopped folding around 40k miles
2) Nav system hard drive only worked when outside temp was above 90F, needs replacement
3) Front bushings were going out
4) Rear air shocks were replaced already (right one twice), dealer told me to expect front ones as well
5) Driver side door sometimes didn't grab, already had trunk latch replaced
6) Needed new tires, not a Lexus problem but still expensive
7) Interior panels were badly worn, although not critical just didn't look right
This is only a list of stuff that was already broken or needed repairs soon, adding everything up gets me to around $10k, the car was only worth $22k so I decided I needed a new one. I priced out a new LS460L which is about as expensive as a Tesla but to me it would almost be a step back. It doesn't look that much different from the old one, I still cannot operate the nav while driving and getting rid of the touch screen in my opinion is just a bad mistake. Typing anything in using a mouse is just tedious, the wife has a Murano and it takes forever. Voice commands just don't work for me, it doesn't know what to do with my heavy accent. I liked my Lexi, I have driven three over the pas 15 years but I always felt they were going down hill after the second generation LS430.

Thanks for the update, really amazing for a TX man with all that oil around him! 
Also amazing that you got a Tesla in a state that doesn't let you buy one or tell you the repair costs! lol (all done through California)

The Dallas service center actually organizes test drives, so I managed to drive both a P85 and a regular 60 over a span of 2 month. Ordering is over the internet, any major credit card is accepted, no hassle and no "dealership experience" to worry about. Ultimate I bought a regular 85 and loaded it up with goodies, panoramic roof, premium audio, nav, air suspension, park assist and a few more.
The instantaneous acceleration difference between a 85 and a P85 is best described by the difference between stupendous and downright scary and stupendous was enough for me, I also saved myself $13K in the process that I put to use for the option goodies. At this moment I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I gave the Model S a look... but my only concern is the cost to rent a hybrid for road trips(I LOVE roadtrips). ..nothing better than my LS stretching its legs on a run to Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, New Orleans, D.C or NYC...1 tank of gas Orlando to Charlotte, 2 tanks Orlando to NYC. . What does the tesla get like 300 miles to a charge then a 10hr wait to recharge?? Or rapid charge which kills the batt over time... (talk about an expense 5k for batts)...
