Default Build Threads - How is the value of the car changed?

I am intrigued with all of the build threads on these forums.

I understand that the number of cars modified (air suspension, 22"wheels, blacked out trim, etc) are disproportionaltey represented in these forums but the question I keep asking myself is "Do these cars have any resale value close to that of a similar stock car?"

I have long wondered if and when these modified cars are sold do the owners return them to stock first and then sell off the parts?

Not judging just curious about the economics and costs.

selling cars with mods will NEVER get you the money back. pretty much always the case going back to stock and sell parts separately will get more money. but it takes time

My 460 was stock when I sold it. Modified cars usually narrow down the amount of potential buyers in a drastic way. When I sold it, I got $2k less than what I paid for it 2 years later..so basically paid $83 a month to own it during that time looool

Yeah take all mods off then sell mods are basically for yourself only dont think you're increasing the value of your car.

For me, I only add mods that can easily come back off (wheels, controllers etc) or mods that are pretty cheap (roof spoiler, trunk spoiler). I learned the hard way that major mods are a terrible investment and rarely net you anywhere close to what you put into them (built motor, super/turbocharge). Second thing I quickly learned, don't get rid of stock parts! They can be a pain to find when you are trying to return to stock!

Most people that heavily modify cars aren't worried about resale value.

A lot of the cars in this class usually have "bolt on mods". Like in my case, I have 22s, aftermarket sub and amp and lowering module. All this can be removed within 2 hours. And as stated above, heavy modders usually aren't concerned with resale.

Not until they try to sell it... Been there (many times).
