Default Brake Acutator?

Hi everyone,

I know that the brake actuator on the early LS460s has an issue. How do you know it's actually failed or is failing?

Do the brakes stop working??!!

From everything I've seen, there is no safety issue and it's just an annoyance. Apparently the issue is a clicking noise from the actuator that's very noticeable. Good news is you can get a unit on Ebay for about 700 dollars, and it's an easy DIY. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Yes, if there had been any safety issue with brakes, the NHTSA would have been all over it with a recall.

I looked in the sticky section and didn't see this diy. Do you have a link to it? Thanks.

not sure where that info came from, but the only fix is to replace with an LS600 actuator unit which is $2,000 new. and there's not many LS600s in junk yards, lol, so good luck finding a used on on ebay. second, it is NOT an easy DIY. in fact, its a nightmare and has to be done through Toyota/Lexus TechStream to be done properly. very tricky to bleed properly.

There's five of them on Ebay right now and as I said in my previous thread, 600-900 dollars. I don't just randomly make isht up. LOL

And as far as bleeding goes, there are several members (and one moderator) who have bled the brakes and others who installed Brembos who say that, if you disconnect the neg batt terminal before bleeding and then reconnect after bleeding, the error codes do not register. You do NOT need Techstream. And the actutator is an easy bolt off, bolt on, with several lines attached to it on the passenger side engine compartment. Easy access to it too.

Strange, the part number that my SA gave for the fix is 44050-50170, not the 44050-50070 shown in the ebay listings. Can anyone else verify that?

Part numbers are updated continually, usually its the same part. I'd be more concerned buying a used braking system part, not knowing its history (ie was it swapped out for a new one because of the same clicking noise, was there a problem with it that was just passed on to a recycler)?

Is the LS600 actuator different from the LS460? And is it better because it's an LS600 actuator or because they are all 2008+ (revised design)?

the title for EVERY ONE of those ebay listings says for LS460 or LS600 (with LS460 mentioned first in ALL cases I believe). they are interchangeable but NOT the same. thats why the CORRECT fix for our car is to use the modules designated for the LS600. yes, the ebay ones WILL work in an LS600 (or 460)... but they are most likely from a junked LS460 and will have the same issues.

this is not a complicated subject.

They are $1500 new at Sewells and Lexusparts. Maybe even cheaper with CL discount.
