Default wheels - is bigger better or is motion of the ocean?

Looking to upsize from stock OEM 18" to 20". I think 22" look the best, but I am concerned about ride quality and having further mods to accommodate the larger wheels. Any advice regarding size and brand/model recommendations? Thanks!

Ride quality is inversely propoprtional to wheel diameter. Do you want a good ride or better handling at the expense of the ride quality you paid for? Remember that the LS460 is not a BMW or Mercedes - its balance is more towards ride quality at the expense of handling.

Gotcha. Would 20" be the best compromise?

I would suggest the wheel sticky which goes in depth on this subject.

I already looked through a few pages and only saw pics and specs. Some impressive vehicles.

If you are worried about ride quality I'd suggest nothing larger than a 20 inch wheel with stock suspension. My idea of "comfort" May be different than yours. As for looks though I'd at least get a set of spring to reduce the wheel gap slightly.

What they said.

I went with 20" staggered and it handles waaay better than the stock setup, but the ride is only slightly less smooth than before.

Thanks all. Planning on 20s. Budget is $3k for wheels and tires (not sure what is realistic). Any brands I should be focusing on?

I get that, but I was asking about the effect on ride quality.

If you use the search feature on this forum, there are tons of threads about ride quality and different wheel sizes that you can read up on....also check the FAQ sticky threads for the discussions there..

I have 22" wheels on my car, it came with 19" and to be honest when my car is in sport mode I really can't feel that much of a difference maybe over railroad tracks. You will probably notice a different ride if you go with 22's since your came with the 18's with taller side walls.

Just got a flat on my rear 22 inch tire and I put the 19 back on while I ordered my size 305 tire, I almost thought about going back to stock then I saw the difference and I was like Hell NO! The compliments and complete look of your ride change dramatically with 22's. But thats what I want as its not my daily.
