Early Ls460s how are they holding up?

Get yourself a 2-seater rag top. Keep the LS. Life is short, enjoy both. Cheaper than a Paramour...

Well, just sold my '08 LS for the '12 LS, but my '08 held up very nicely. I don't recall any real issues that I had, just some minor things here and there over 76,000 miles. If you read my thread about my decision to go with the 2012, it was purely to have something a little newer and was not due to anything negative with my '08 LS. I had never had a car for 6 years before and just had the itch I guess for a change, but had nothing to do with anything mechanical on my '08. I started with the base Lexus and worked my way up to the "Big Boy".

2008 LS460 here. Had a couple major jobs under CPOW. All the front control arms had to be replaced 8 to 10 in all which came out to $4,500. Then a few months later the Brake Actuator failed and that was another $3,500 all under the CPOW so didn't pay a penny of that $8K in recent repairs. I've had for 2 years now. Purchased as a CPO with around 32K miles and these issues didn't happen until recently around 55K miles. I will never purchase a car with this sort of new price tag with CPOW. Other then that it's been a pleasure to drive. And all my buds love cruising in it as they nickname it The Maybach and stroll in style. She's rolling like new with 63K miles. Stay tuned.... Chances are that I'll be putting her up for sale soon because I have the itch for another AMG. A 2010 E63 AMG to be exact. I need that break neck power on demand. So we'll see. Interested, PM me.

I'm just curious to see if the 460 holds up as well as the 400 of yesteryear has. I've got a 95 Ls400. It's my everyday car, got it a year ago with 139k on the clock. I'm up to almost 180k already (yes I drive my car to death) it has been 115% rock solid reliable and has never let me down. All I've had to do is put gas and oil in it although it's due for a major service soon (power steering leaks, AC isn't as cold as it was, brakes are starting to squeak, and it's starting to burn oil but still drives perfect) the LS is so over engineered and so bulletproof that sadly it's a car that some people just let go of. They can run and run for years with literally ZERO matinence. It's horrible for the car but they will put up with it for awhile and I'm seeing more and more neglected older examples now. I know someone that has a 91 Ls400 that literally has not changed the oil for 165,000 miles. :/ car sounds awful and barley runs but it is running. I don't know any other car you could get away with not changing the oil for 165k miles in lol. Prob only a matter of time before it blows up. Think a Ls460 could be abused like that?!

No offense, but did you mean to post this in the LS400 forum? lol
I think your real question is being answered above. . .with good reviews from Shibumi1 and clemgrad85 for example

333,xxx miles and 07. rear trunk latch, starter, front and rear air struts, front control arms, valve cover gaskets. The control arms were cheap from ebay, and my son installed them. The valve covers gasket set need to get from dealer as the aftermarket was jacked. This is a sensitive issue as you have mechanical fuel pumps and oil going to sprayers in the top of the valve cover need to be careful. still runs great, it was used as a limo for a couple years. Not thrilled about the air shock suspension is all.

The LS as an AWD doesn't seem to suffer much if any specific problem however some of the few that had issues noticed some odd vibrations that they attribute to the drivetrain. On the whole it seems to be quiet reliable.

I bought my 07 a year ago today...for the first 8 months I didn't drive it much because the thing was so beautiful, I just waxed it, worried about it and let it sit in my garage. Then because I realized what a waste that was, I tried to sell it (I figured if I wasn't going to use it, I'd better get something more "practical"). Then someone said something to me..."it doesn't matter how nice it is it's going to end up in the junk yard some day, like every other car".
Since that point I've driven the hell out of it - I've put ten thousand miles on it in four months - for a year total of 14 thousand miles. I have not had one single thing go wrong with it. Not one. I just returned from a 500 mile trip to the White Mountains and I averaged 29 mpg the whole way...think about that...I averaged 29 mpg going up and down mountain roads...rt 16, the Kank, etc.
86k miles and the thing drives like new. I plan on putting 30k on it next year - easy.
