So we were changing my oil yesterday and when were tightening the drain bolt it snapped. It was a hollow bolt with, what I was told, a quick access port for some sort of diagnosis. I ended up just replacing it with a regular bolt. Anyone else have this happen to them and is it gonna be ok until the next oil change to keep that bolt?

So the drain bolt out of the oil pan correct and not the one for the filter.... should be fine I wouod check if any oil is leaking out n get a new one as soon as possible as that is temporary. Did you use the gasket as well??

As long as it's not leaking you're fine until the next oil change when you can install the right bolt.

did you take the part that was broken out or is it sitting inside the oil pan?

If you were using a torque wrench to tighten the bolt, did it fail before you hit the proper torque for the bolt?

Stinks to have a bolt fail before it should.

I took the old one out. It failed just starting to tighten. Yeah it had a black cap over the quick access port that was built into the bolt. My buddy said it's a type of bolt that they can hook up a thing to measure oil pressure in diagnostics.

Just go to the dealer and get a replacement. Drain your oil in a clean container and reuse when replacing the bolt.

Is it easy to get to. Did you use ramps. I was debating if I was going to buy the low profile ramps for my LS.
Not too sure if I will change my own oil or not.

It's extremely easy to get to, but you do need ramps. I use a very old set (ie: VERY NON LOW PROFILE) of ramps. LOL. No problem though....I just place a piece of 2x6 lumber at the foot of the ramp so that my lip clears the starting incline of them.

But wonder if that would also work with my 2011 sport, since I think the front is a little lower.
Really don't want to spend 300.00 for a good set of low profile ramps if I am not even sure if I will use.

I have also used them for about 20 years on all my cars. Not sure if I will get one for my LS. Recently a mechanic told me that since they drain slower, a lot of guys will not let all the old dirty oil drain out like they would with a regular plug.
And not sure yet if I will do any of my own oil changes on this car.
