It's not hard to get 100K miles on a Lexus, I've had 2 so far that have exceeded that with relatively no issues.
It's more about the cost to maintain them and whether or not you can deal with those costs.
From my experience it costs about 3-4 times more to maintain a Mercedes or BMW after the warranty ends.
You should also factor in the time involved to take the car to the dealer or Indy to get estimates and repairs.
To me the German brands are time bombs waiting to go off. You just never know when they will and that's just more stress I don't need in my life.

have had many of BMW's. My last one was a 2002 745LI. I traded it in at 185,000 miles. Aside from have to replace a water pump, reservoir tank, and 1 hose the car was exceptional.
Wow. That definitely is an exception! This is the first "good news story" I've ever heard throughout my BMW ownership. ESPECIALLY in a first model year '02. They are atrociously unreliable.

In fact, the 2002 745i made Time Magazines 50 worst cars of all time list!

I'm waiting on a '07 LS460 SWB with 109K on it...my daily driver is a 99 LS400 with 245K on it...replaced an alternator and 4pages of maintenance from local Lexus dealer by the original owner and the rest (me) was oil changes from our local Toyota dealer...drove a loaner 2013 ES350 for a week and when I returned to my 99LS400...I felt so outdated!!! Thus the '07 460...my 400 treated me good but I want a Mark Levinson damn it!!!!! :-)

LOL. Amen to that. I thought my BMW Harmon Kardon Logic 7 System was crazy, but my ML blows it away!

What's up everyone, I'm new and just picked up an 08 460 with 105 on it, I did a lot of research on this one, was corporate owned and have all the maintenance records, looks like dealer replaced normal stuff thru the years, oil, brakes, air filter, had starter replaced at 80K, all fluids, coolant, brake fluid replaced, runs like a cat on steroids, luv it. I've owned 4 seven series beemers and this is my first 460, I'll have to say I'm impressed so far

Yeah I'm saving money now that I've got the Lex for sure!! Hi miles and drives so nice, the comfort is awesome compared to the seven and no more pain meds for butt pain, lol., jk, but its a great feeling, the dealer I got from put 1200 in it before they sold it, so it runs well, got a little warranty, plan on some tint and maybe getting some original lexus star pattern rims, keep for a year then move up to a 2010 or 2011, awesome forum, nice to be here.

It seems to me that only previous owners of lexus knows that high mileage lexus new cars can still take it, because, for the rest, 100k miles it is very high mileage, psychologically speaking. My ES350 2008 has 105k miles and serviced meticilously and i really feel that it can do another 100k miles with minimum replacement parts. I'm now heavily looking for a LS460 in my area and found some interesting one, but the most has 85k miles and i plan to run it to the 200k miles mark. My main objective is to deal the lowest possible to cover the cost of the air suspensions if it happen to fail. Note that i only do freeway for work, so i guess that it would be less hard for the car.

Anyone ever change the transmission fluid on their LS460? Did the dealer do it? How much was it?

+1

Mine is due soon. I know that some say it's lifetime fluid, but my manual definitely says to change it at 104k kms (60k miles). Maybe different for Canada?

The tranny is sealed, Lexus recommends you don't touch unless it's leaking or something is wrong. It was the same for the LS 430 I put over 110K on and 149K on my old LS460 SWB. They ran great with no issues, the only thing I had to replace on SWB was the water pump everything else was general maintenance per the schedule.

Default a lot of miles

2007 LS460L 315,000 MILES! I just got mine in a couple months ago, and has been great, we made a trip to Texas and South Dakota and back to Florida during xmas. What a ride, it is just itching to cruz at 100mph. My son is a mechanic and I am a motor head myself. I just love these cars, have 98 gs400 with 200k on it and runs great. My son and I have done some work on it not all tuned up. front o2 sensors, spark plugs, and valvecover gasket set, vvt adjuster oring on front of block, and the short lower control arm on the front. I bought new and saved the old ones to repair them. I have the all other suspension parts not on hand to replace as needed. I did replace the radiator and hoses, since I broke of the expansion tank fitting leaning on it, but it was cracked already. I had the dealer service the tranny I just don't think the life is up to the tranny and I want it fresh. The previous 2 owners were busy, at least the second one who bought it and put 230k on in just over 2 years as a private limo service. They did not give the paint much love, but I have waxed it a lot. Since it is black it is not to bad. The only other major work was the rear air shocks were replaced by the dealer at about 100k on it from the receipts. It still sounds good. As long as I keep the oil fresh and synthetic I expect 500k on this engine. The dealer says he has seen that on some of his customers.

I dunno Tee...

On page 2 - upper right side of the Maintenance Schedule (COTCI-07LSM-25), under "Additional Service Requirements", it says,

"You're vehicle will also require the following specialized attention. Be sure to have these services performed as part of the regularly scheduled maintenance at the time or distance indicated, whichever occurs first:

-Replace automatice transimission fluid every 72 months/96,000 kms"

it's in the same section that lists brake fluid flush, coolant flush, cabin filters, and differential fluid change intervals.

I know that BMW had the same "Lifetime Fluid for transmissions" line of thinking but many disagreed with it. Also, what does "lifetime" mean? I'm leery.
