For those with a 2010 with Lane Assist, how is that working? Can you use it while not in cruise control? My wife would like a car that helps her be a little safer when driving, including watching her eyes, so she doesn't wander, and keeping her from drifting. She also likes the intuitive parking assist - (not the one that parallel parks for you). It might also be good that if we had two 460's we could easily switch cars. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the Lexus version, but I do know about the Infiniti version. I've driven an M45 with it and it works exceptionally well. Even here in the northeast where the painted lines tend to fade severely, the system detected any departure from the lane. Many years ago I did a lot of late night highway driving and would have killed for a system like this.

However, here is the downside. You have to signal every lane change or else the system goes off. Often times there is no need to signal since there is no other car to signal to. On the M45 you have to shut the system off each time you start the car if you don't want or need it.

Personally, I would only reccomend it if you felt that unknowingly leaving your lane was a issue for you. Now that I no longer do extended late night driving, I would have no use for this system.

Yes you can. LKA works in conjunction with your radar cruise system but it can be used seperately of the radar cruise. So if you are not looking to use the Radar Cruise function, you can simply press the LKA button. Once the system has engaged, and the multifunction indicator on the dash will indicate a picture of two lines (illustration of lanes) turning bold once the system has engaged.

In the LS 460 the LKA is off when you start the car and has to be turned on each time you use it.

With the radar cruise either off or on, if you cross a lane marker with LKA enabled, the system will beep and apply slight corrective torque to the steering wheel to get you back in the lane. Also, the LKA display lines turn yellow and flash.

With the radar cruise on, it also makes subtle steering corrections to help keep you in the lane without any audible or visual alarms. Will actually guide the car around curves in the road. You have to make your own steering corrections periodically or the system will shut off. Steering seems easier because the car is doing some of the work.

LKA is part of advanced Pre Crash which has other safety features. Not sure if it is worth the considerable expense but if you drift off the road because of falling asleep or any of the other distractions some of us are subject to, it could save you from a serious accident.

I've had actual experience with LKA in the HS250h and the LS600hL/460L and with the new GX460, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) which is only half the function of LKA in the HS and LS. The system works the same in these cars. LKA/LDA kind of makes it feel like you're driving a car down a bowling lane with "bumpers" on each side of the lane. LKA not stop you from drifting over to the next lane over.

Although these safety features are very useful, it's not a replacement for your actual sensory functions.

If you replace the distance button of your 2007-2009 LS600h with the one of model 2010-2012 you get the LKA function. However, you don't have a display control and it is not compatible with LED headlights as Lexus said. Exchange the switch and switch off LED and enjoy the boring highway without leaving the lane while texting.

Normally applicable for 2009/11 - 2012/09 LS 600 but it works on 2007-2009 models, too, as long as you do not switch on the LED headlights. The reason why Lexus did not activate LKA on LS600 first gen.

If you connect a diagnostic tool to check the bulbs in the dashboard, you can activate the first gen LS600 LKA lamp but not by the control button of the face lift model.

I'm looking for a solution how to switch on the LKA bulb on a 2008 LS600. Any idea?

No, I didn't add so far but experiments with the modification of the existing switch were successful. The function is available, only the LKA hole and white pin is not assembled:



I only like to realize it if I can activate the lamp in the dashboard or any other lamps showing me that LKA is on.
