How much did you pay for an oil change
#31
I paid $159 at Lexus dealer in California for the second oil change (as I recall the first was free) on my 2007 LS . Since then, I have done 18 oil changes myself and enjoyed the satisfaction of doing the job right and knowing what kind of oil is in my engine. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 0W-20 and buy it on sale. I buy the filter from my local Toyota dealership for $3.99 when they run their part specials. The cost to me for each oil change is about $50. I just did my 100k mile oil change and can't believe I have done 18 oil changes.
If your paying someone $33 for this service, I wonder what your getting.
A case of Toyota oil for $66 is a great deal!

One of my friends has an IS250 RWD and they rotated his tires when you are not suppose to. If I didn't point it out he wouldn't have known and could have possibly had an accident.

I checked me receipt. It states Kit 888, Motor oil, Replaceable element 04152-yzza5 , installed gasket 90430-12031. Sub total 30.95. It doesn't mention the type of oil

Snake oil I'm convinced! You are getting charged $133, but the 1 didn't print. What does your credit card say?

I've been going to Toyota since 2010. I owned 4 Lexus, 2003 gs 300, 2002 Ls 430. Currently I own 2006 Gs 300 & 2007 Ls 460L. I pay the same price for all 4 Vehicles.

This is not entirely surprising. with some Toyota dealerships luring you in with the cheap oil change so they can sell you on other services as they rummage through the engine bay to find something wrong with your car. Or with the expectation that they will be your preferred dealership for any work as It's a good investment but unfortunately many of these chain dealerships will cut costs and not provide you with Toyota oil.
Usually I'm of the mindset of most oil is good enough and some are better then others however these days it's not always true. Toyota brand oil in a 20wt is formulated with a high degree of anti wear additives and if you use other brands of XX-20 oils it may wear down the engine synthetic or not.

The Lexus dealer in Los Angeles will charge you $50 just to look at your car. LOL. I can't even get the oil for $33. In fact, they even charge you to dispose the oil in Los Angeles.

An independent shop that specializes in Lexus will perform great work. My mechanic knows my car inside and out. He uses Toyota 0w-20 synthetic oil and a Toyota oil filter. I watch while he does the work. He loves to work on my Lexus like it was his.
I wash and vacuum my own LS460 and I know how to change the oil and filter, but I choose not to change the oil myself. I don't want to deal with carrying the old oil in the trunk to a oil disposal facility. I also don't want to get my hands all oily and dirty.
However, I'm a great supervisor and I can definitely talk to my mechanic if I don't like something he's doing.

Hey, LexusManny! IS 250 RWD in all years use different front and rear tire sizes and wheel widths. So it's possible that rotating them could cause interference and handling problems.
Using an independent specialist shop is a great idea for routine service and normal repairs. There's a good one near me.
Having retired from the tire and service chain, I don't mind getting a little dirty doing my own basic service. A do-it-yourself place recently opened near me. They rent service bays with lifts for $20/hr and provide basic tools, electrical outlets and compressed air. A true valhalla for any car nut. It's clean, well lit and fun!
