weird brake issue
hey guys i have a brake problem that I'm not really sure where it stemmed from but here it goes..
about 2 months ago i was driving and heard a clicking noise that would increase the faster i drove, i 1st thought it was something in the tire. after checking my right front tire and saw nothing was there for some reason i figured it was the brake.....so my personal mechanic the next day took off the wheel i told me i had to replace the braking kit because one of the pins was rubbing on the rotor, in the mean time he pulled it to try to realign it into place.....after he did that i realized the steering wheel shuddering when braking at highway speeds....figuring since i needed the braking kit that when replaced, this new problem would b solved.....braking kit replaced problem still there....he says i need new rotors but i just replaced them like a year ago....so I'm thinking of cutting them instead to save a good amount of money.....any suggestions....and does anybody have a range of what cutting should cost me.....thanx for the help

Just buy new rotors, chances are once you cut them the metal you remove will not allow them to dissipate heat as well as they should, which will lead to vibration (excessive lateral run out) and you'll be buying new rotors soon after.

Depends on how much you drive and the driving conditions, I'd say three months, but if you're lucky 6. I'm just going off of past experiences.

I would cut the rotors and replace the pads with akebono ceramic pads. Tire rack has performance rears and amazon has std front ceramic. The oe pads bite in and grab the rotors and it doesn't feel smoothe to me. The "grippy" effect could make u release and reapply the brakes repeatedly. Moreover, the oe pad material may train you to create your problems. I wish you well. Please post your results.

Not in my opinion, if anything they may be a bit better than my OEM pads. Read the Tire Rack piece on ceramic pads to see all the advantages. When you couple that with the virtual absence of brake dust, it's no contest.

I would have them turned. I had a similar problem and had my Toyota dealer do the work. I had purchased a set of Michelins from them 2 weeks ago and they turned them for free but I was told turning would have cost $69.95.

unfortunately they don't make pads for the awd cars, we have bigger brakes in the front.....their available for the rear though

No wierd problems now.
I replaced the front rotors with drilled StopTech rotors(cryo) from TireRack and Akebono ceramic pads from Amazon. On the rear only the pads were replaced; no attention was given to the rear rotors. The car brakes as it should now.
P.S. A fella named Marshall helped me/give the guy credit at checkout if you can.
