Should I buy an extended warranty for my 2008 LS460?
I just purchased a 2008 LS460 with 72K miles.
Would you buy the 3 year extended warranty ?
Its offered by a 3rd party for about $2300

I wouldn't even consider it. Non factory warranty companies are known for being difficult to deal with AND going out of business.
Go factory or go without.

Hey phat, welcome to the Club!
I'm sure you are going to love your new LS.
There have been numerous discussions here on this topic. Here is link to a good thread to start with -

Then you can do some searches on your own using the " search this forum" tab in the upper right corner.

Extended warranties are VERY negotiable from dealers.
You can even get them from other dealers...over the phone. Just ask for the credit manager and start negotiating.
If it's a used car, like the 2008, they try to sell you a 5 or 7-year warranty even though most of those years are already expired. You'd be paying for the previous owner's coverage which is long gone.
"Extended" isn't really "extended", like from the time the original warranty expired. They calculate if from when the car was originally sold...BS!~!

Look, i have been doing my research since i bought the car. First off, your car has 72k miles, mine has 67k and i couldn't get any dealer to negotiate because their prices are set as far as their warranty so dont waste your time trying to negotiate warranty with your car due to its miles. You dont really have much "pull" once it is over 50k miles. That being said, there are a few third party companies i have been talking to and the best ones are Costco and i can't recall the other one. Bottom line, the best price i have found was 2700 dollars for 36k miles for my vehicle, but he told me it goes up once it hits 75k miles. At this point, the LS is much more reliable than its direct competition (750,s550, etc), but remember that this car is in my opinion the MOST "unreliable" lexus vehicle there is simply becauase it has tons of electronics which include the retarded electronic brakes that are even failing on the brand new 2013 models.
I am on the fence as far as warranty goes because i am just probably not going to keep this vehicle for more than 2 years due to the fact that it is the most expensive vehicle i have owned and also the one i have the most 'issues" with.

Just got back from a week on the beach in La Jolla. I need to try to get over there and have them install them. They have called me twice and told them to give me a couple of weeks. What made me happy is all of the S class benzes that littered the lots La Jolla were all running Michelin Pilot sports. If its good enough for an S class then its good enough for my LS. I will post when I get them installed. I should be able to get there soon considering they are in the same lot as my office
