So I manually disengaged my parking brake through the trunk release per the manual.

I brought it in to the dealer to have it re-engaged per the manual. They are telling me that the actuator is now malfunctioning and it has to be completely replaced rather than just re-engaged. Price? oh just $3200. Ridiculous. I'm still waiting on the error code that it's throwing. I'll list it here once I get it.

Anybody had an experience with this? It just boggles my mind that they cannot re-engage their own parking brakes like they say they can when you disengage it.

Also had my Akebono pads put on and had the rotors resurfaced. $250 for each end for a total of $500 just for the install and resurface. Damn that seemed high to me too. Anybody have any feedback on this as well?

Also my rear pads wore to the point where it tripped the sensor that alerted on my dash... trying to charge me $180 just to replace that sensor.

Also my driver window has not been shutting properly/completely because of the trim it seems, creating lots of wind noise. It was apparently a TSB under LSB-007, but since my vehicle has over 100K miles (I'm at 118K) they won't Goodwill it and are trying to charge me 3 bills for the new window run as well. Seems kinda ****ty too. (I'm thinking I might be able to manipulate the window run trim myself to correct this)

Not feeling very good about my dealer experience here today.

How did this situation turn out? Had to manually disengage the parking brake today. (Dead batt seems to be the cause) curious on resolution incase i need to purchase pricey parts or labor right b4 xmas....

The problem with that e brake actuator is that to replace it the entire rear subframe and suspension must come out, never mind the $1000 price tag for the actuator. The system is ridiculous. This is a system that should almost never fail and if it does, cost minimal to fix. This car has a lot of things like that to worry about...the control arms 3k...the steering rack replacement 3k...two fuel systems...brake actuator 2k.

So far I've been lucky with mine - and you can find cheaper alternatives on eBay - I found a rack on there for $500 and a brake actuator for $700, but still.

I just checked alldatadiy. List on the actuator $1,200, standard labor 10.5 hours!

Two fuel systems is right but don't forget it also has four fuel pumps. Two high pressure DI pumps, one low pressure pump and one transfer pump.

I am rarely parked on any kind of incline so I almost never use my parking brake. Having read this thread, I think I will continue that practice!

10.5 hours sounds about right...imagine? Fixing an e brake system and having it cost you 3k? I think I'd install a pedal, some cable, drill holes in the floor and call it a day. I bet it can be done.

The fact the they are not used regularly can be the worst thing to do in some cases. I've always said that anything mechanic a does not like being ignored.

BTW, don't let the BMW forums find out. Everyone is brain washed with the notion that they are the most unreliable car as the years go by, and they are expensive to fix.

That is a very good point. I subscribe to that axiom.

I will continue to use my parking brake sparingly, but if it ever fails, I won't get it repaired.

Hey, jbrittmart! I just have to ask why you did a manual release. I wouldn't think that would be needed to remove the rotors.

I spoke to a lexus tech earlier today.he says as long as nothing was physically damaged while they were working on it.. (which they didnt. Just a dead battery.. repeatedly jumped) then he says the reset can be down with techstream...

I won't attempt it until the car is fully back together. (So i can clear any other codes that may have popped up) Which should be next week...

It is ridiculous. Who is want to own an angling car with all these systems that will eventually fail.

Fyi this will happen with ANY car you own. As they age parts will fail eventually... seeing as lexus has a VERY high reliability rate. Your better with a lexus than a bimmer, merc or audi. ...its just par for the course. That said lexus parts are way cheaper than the others too... a quick Google search an i found the part for $967 new from a dealer.. with labor from a trusted reliable mechanic... I'd guess 12 to 1500 otd. Not too bad on a 7yo car.... try that with an S class or a 7 series...

An the chances of the part failing twice not too likely
