So given all the well documented issues, would you still recommend the LS 460?

Default So given all the well documented issues, would you still recommend the LS 460?

As a previous owner of 2 pretty much bullet proof Lexus' in the past - 1999 LS 400 and 2006 GX470, I've been considering a CPO LS460 - most likely a 2009/10.

But after spending a couple of hours last night reading through all the issues - struts, vibrations, wind noise (which was the first thing I noticed when I test drove an 07 the other day btw!), transmission, engine issues (as noted by Consumer Reports), etc - now I'm feeling gun shy. The whole point of buying a Lexus is not to have to deal with this kind of stuff.

So I'm just curious, 1) Does anyone have a trouble free car? and 2) how many of you would still buy if you could do it again?

Thanks in advance!

Despite this issues..consumer reports still rated the LS tops on the list....I tell all my friends to get one and once they do I send them the lambros link for all the TSBs that address pretty much every issue. Be nice to have a perfect car with zero issues..ever..but not realistic in my opinion

If not an LS 460, then what?

BMW 7, one of the big Mercedes, Jaguar?

After you spend some time on those other model forums, the Lexus LS 460 will undoubtedly some out ahead.

Continue doing your due diligence, then make an informed decision.

Good luck!

CPO cars have full warranty for 3 years. If you plan on keeping your vehicle longer, invest in an extended warranty.

Which brings me to a follow up question - if you find a good car at a non-Lexus dealer, are the third party warranties just as good as CPO? assuming the $$ still work

Nothing matches a CPO'd car with a CPO warranty.

If considering a third party warranty, buy a Lexus Platinum from the dealer many recommend here - much cheaper than buying it anywhere else.

All of the local Lexus mechanics say the LS460 isn't quite as reliable as the LS400 and LS430, but it's still a solid car.

If you can get a CPO LS, go for that.

The so called "issues" are nothing compared to other brand's horror stories. I still have my 2007 LS-460 bought in december of 2006, it has 35K miles and absolutely no problems whatsoever. The only issues (wind noise and valve springs) were promptly taken care of by the dealer and I can't see myself having another brand as a main driver. All I have to do is put gas, have the dealer regular maintenance visits done and nothing else. This car, in my opinion, is decades ahead of their main competitors when it comes to reliability. No regrets.

its all on you as far as maintenance but I tell you this I had a 96 ls400 no problems rock solid, 95 gs300 rock solid, 08 ls460 and besides the wind noise no problems had it for almost 2 years I did 1 oil change and the rest are mods. still a solid car I am scared of the big germans with or without a warranty.

No matter what car you purchase there will be issues with them. Spending time on forums will inform you. The LS seems to have the least issues and no major issues either. Trust me my cousin is on the BMW forums for his 6 series and the problems they have to deal with are hilarious, and unfortunate. As far as reliability goes LS is top of the list.

from what I have read before, the LS460 is the most reliable model in the most reliable brand sold in the US.

Traded in 2007 LS460 SWB a month ago on wife's 2013 GS450h. I get to drive her "old" 2010 ES350. No, not whipped - I am special ordering a 2013 LS460 to get the option mix I want. At any rate, the 2007 LS was a CPO with 18k that I got in Oct 2009.

Brakes were garbage from Day 1, causing whole car to shudder 80-65mph and 30-35mph. Turned downed rotors to take out warp, they re-warped in a week. Rotors replaced all four corners, warped again within 3 months. Turned and brake pads replaced, still shuddering. Finally, brake actuator went out and was replaced along with two new front rotors. (That's two sets of rotors in less than 45k miles and I drive like an old lady)

ML amp died, but not quietly! Hideous high-freq racket drove me nuts until dealer had replacement shipped in. ML head got flaky where it would power off on its own and the various buttons would become unresponsive. It was intermittent, but (FOR ONCE IN MY LIFETIME) it did its little dance while at the dealer for the brake job above. Head replaced.

TSBs were few: door pillar replaced (redesigned shape to lessen seat belt abrasion), driver's seat padding added to save my poor tailbone. Recall: the valve lifter thing.

EVERYTHING was done under warranty and even somewhat beyond end of "official" end of CPO coverage. I loved that car more than my kids and can't wait for my new one to come in!

It doesn't. M45 compares more to a GS....LS is in a totally different class

DEFINETLY GET THE CPO WHATEVER YOU DO! 3rd party warranties are not comparable. I had 8k worth of work done under my CPO warranty on my '04 LS430 UL. F'ing amazing!

That said, skip '07-'09 altogether. I always prefer a refreshed model and there are some important additions from '10-'12..streaming bluetooth, gen 6 nav, styling updates, side mirror turn signals, no engine issues....etc.

Quick Reply: So given all the well documented issues, would you still recommend the LS 460?
