We've driven our LS430 for the past 9 years with only one (1) mechanical problem.
We've just traded the LS430 for an 08 LS460 with low kilometres. Have only driven the LS460 for a short period, & my first impressions is that the LS460 due to it's suspension has a "floating" drive feel.
I'm expecting the LS460 will be just as reliable as the LS430. I will be doing most of the regular servicing myself with parts purchased from the USA, as parts costs in Australia are high when compared to USA.
I've always changed oils/ fluids in our cars at 6 months / 5,000 kilometre intervals which I believe is cheap insurance.

I have had 12 different LS cars fron 1995, 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005 and 2008....so I have had models in all series [LS 400,430 and 460].......I personally believe the 430 series is the best. Yes, the 460 ghas more HP and more get up and go....but the 430 has plenty. I personally believe that if a person has the finacial wherewithall to afford it---he should have a luxury car for trips, a sports car for weekends, a economical car for trips around town and of course a pick up for chores and hauling.

I have not looked at the 430 market but you should be able to find a 460L for under 30 - it would probably have high mileage.. Seriously, I doubt that LS 430 sellers are preying (I assume you didn't mean praying? lol), on anyone. They are dated looking cars.. that are not exactly hot.. just my opinion..
You might want to consider used warranty from Costco. Almost all "aftermarket" used car warranties, are scams (the companies usually go out of business or deny claims). Because its costco, I give it value (never actually bought it - I checked prices for my 2008 LS600hl and it was around $3500)..
If you are seeking a 10-12 years of good service, you should consider a new Camry or Accord.. They are almost as spacious as the old 430 and certainly better than a used 430 in many respects. Modern cars have come a long way since 2001's LS430. Personally, I would rather own one of these two than the LS430.. These would be a lot more reliable and cost effective.. I have owned a couple of camrys and an accord.. Recently, I bought two VW passats.. The reason I mention all this is not to boast but to establish my experience and credibility.. These cars are amazing.. Even my passats are giving 33 mpg and is as spacious as the ls430.. It the best driving car of these three.
The LS 430 can get very expensive to maintain, as it ages.. because parts are very expensive.. Besides, if your plan is to keep it for 10 to 12 years, why would you want to be driving around in a 15 to 20 year old car - seats would be worn out! If price is an issue and the size does not matter, I found the Lexus CT200 to be an excellent value. I just leased one and enjoy driving it. If you don't need the rear seat, it is excellent..

No one is denying the fact that Camry or an accord have more tech features such as Bluetooth audio, LEDs..etc
If you simply want a good Econ car...Camry and accord is a good/wiser choice
Brand new Camry or an accord cannot ever be as smooth as Any LS let alone an LS430. Comparing these cars in the same segment is wrong,
LS430 is one of the smoothest driving cars period (I have driven plenty of high end cars such as s600, A8, 7xx, 460s etc)
LS430 have proved itself over last 12 yrs...these cars are very reliable almost bulletproof if maintained properly. ( sure when things starts to breakdown, costs do add up) and that's with any car..even Honda parts costs $$$
My point is LS430 offers a great value...very reliable, I don't know of many folks that have done other than routine maintenance.

I think his point really is that nothing lasts forever. However great an LS430 may be, is one wants to buy a car to keep 10-12 years, an already 8-10 year old car is too old a car to buy.

I wish I could go back in time and not trade my 04 LS430 for my current LS460L.
