but it's free??? I could understand 'taking chances' if it were a few thousand dollar replacement/repair (aka extended warranty concerns)

I'm sure if you have a non adversarial relationship with your service advisor, he can even arrange for the car to be picked up and dropped off before the week is over if they aren't over-booked

Where in Texas are you near? If you are going to Sterling McCall Lexus in Houston you'll have no problems, they are one of the higher volume dealers, they know what they are doing (no matter what we all say about the stealerships...........)

Its a TSB from Lexus you might as well do it so if there is any other issues in the future you can just contact the dealership that did the work as a warranty so to speak.

Of course have it done. They are going to have a competent tech on the job, not their express lube guy. The car isn't going to be any different than when you bring it in, except for new valve springs. It wont have more power, it won't drive any better. It's all mental if someone says different.

I chose to wait. There is a 1 in 500 chance that my car will have a problem....that's nothing. If Toyota/Lexus wasn't in the public eye for all the other problems they had, they would have kept their mouth shut, and fixed cars as they failed (I even had a person of some importance at Lexus admit this). It's no big deal, if my car gets affected, they will fix it for me then. If I let them touch the car, there is a much higher than a .2% chance that my paint will get damaged, or something else will get screwed up in the process. I can't even take my car in for a safety inspection without them screwing something up! The last "free" car wash at the dealer, cost me $400 in paint correction, and about 20hrs of my own time, to get the paint back to my standards. needless to say, my car now always goes in totally spotless, with a big "do not wash" sign on the dashboard. When the battery was replaced under warranty, they lost all but one of the battery cover clips. It's pretty bad when they can't even put a plastic cover back properly. How can I trust that all the bolts on the VSR will be properly torqued? Thankfully they handed me the clips on the next visit. They would have been about $35 if I had to pay for them, thankfully they believed me that the mechanic lost them. I will not let them do the recall, unless something fails. I will then be ready to sell it if I'm not happy. I am way too picky with my cars to let them rip open the engine, unless absolutely necessary. If you look at some of the posts, you will see a good amount of problems that people had stemming from the repair. The dealers will definitely push you to have this done, because they get over $4,000 from Lexus for this repair! Dealers make their money from repairs, not from selling cars.

LOL for a split second I thought you were talking about the Lexus stealership located on the northside of Houston metropolitan area. LexusCorp deserves credit for training & maintaining such a consistent shop standards across state lines.

Well I had it done and the ECM Firmware Update as well. No problems. Car runs fine.

I had the VSR done on my V6 GS and my V8 LSand have had no issues with either. I have probably put 10k on the car since the VSR and the car is perfect. I would agree that the car almost feels better and idles abit smoother after the VSR

Mine was completed by JM Lexus (Incredibly wonderful dealership and the world's largest Lexus dealer, in Margate, FL <== interesting factoid ...... LOL) about 3000 miles ago.

Our LS460 drives and behaves virtually perfectly (excepting the Neanderthal navigation system abortion).

Barbie & I are "fans" of the VS replacement.

We own an LS460 2008, when we received the recall notice that all the valve springs needed to be replaced, because they were braking, we were very concern that something else could be damaged in this process, because it was a mayor disassembly project and our fears came through. Soon after a knocking noise started coming from the rear of the engine right trough the fire wall and very noticeable inside the passenger compartment, even our Lexus independent specialist that services our Lexus cars for the last 14 years, says that from all the LS460 his company services, is the loudest of all. We have visited 2 times the original Lexus dealer we purchased from J. M. Lexus and Lexus of West Kendall for service in Florida; they all say all the LS460 have a noisy engine due to the 2 high pressure gas pumps and even the brand new 2012 would have the same noise. We took the time to test drive one with 500 miles in the odometer and of course did not have the knocking noise.
This is the most absurd answer response we ever heard. We have written 4 certified letters including the top Toyota representative Mr. Yoshimi Inaba Toyota Motor North America, Inc. Chairman and CEO, trying to get Toyota involved to do an inspection by one of their top engineers to trouble shoot this knocking noise that is causing it and they are ignoring our request since the beginning of the year. The original warranty is going to run out by the end of this year.
We welcome any similar comments from other LS460 or any other Lexus owners that are experiencing similar knocking engine noise.
