Default LS 460 door hinges defective--replaced twice

My 2007 SWB LS 460 with 22,000 miles on it has required replacement of the driver's side door hinges twice and the passenger front door hinges once. This is obviously of concern, since the original fix on the driver's side failed again within 8 months. The car has light single driver use.

My dealer says that Lexus "knows about" the problem. Has anybody else had such an experience?

I haven't seen any postings about this problem.

Neither have I, nor could I find anything online.

It strikes me as a real problem that will likely have occurred in other LS460s (which is why I made the inquiry); door hinges are built to be very robust even on the most basic vehicles and almost never fail--to have three hinge failures on a car of this extremely high build quality seems odd.

Default Had my hinges replaced...

I had to replace the passenger side door hinges on my 2007 LS460L. The door would not close smoothly and had to be be shoved into the closing position for the power door closer to activate.

Important caveat though -- I bought this car CPO so it might have had some undocumented work on it from the previous owner.

The repairs were fixed under the CPO warranty and the door is now fine.

jmcraney: No we don't swing on the doors--it's just cold, that's all. No I'm not pdrr98, but his problem is mine exactly.

G26: I have no doubt that this is a more common problem than we know. My dealer stated that Lexus changed door hinges after this problem was seen on the 2007 models. I'll bet that this is not the last time my hinges go bad!

bird1028,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. The hinge thing is really disturbing to me. The wind noise, you fix it one time and it is gone forever. Sounds like the hinge is a perpetual problem. I normally keep cars for ten years but it may be time to bailout. Reckon it's that cold weather that's causing the hinges to fail? Yours was the first I had heard about and then a search showed only one other, pdrr98, both of you in IL, and now along comes g26 and he seems to be in FL.

Default Door Hinges

Like, g26, I had the same problem. I rarely have passengers until one day I had to drive a friend back to school and was made aware of the difficulties in closing the front passenger door. Service had to order the hinge and had it done three weeks ago. When I called for an appointment was told about the recall so I lucked out and had both problems resolved at the same time. The recall work took 3 days, NYC, got a loaner for the weekend. Haven't really notice a difference. BTW-I have a CPO 07' LS 460L.

Happy Holidays.

WOW I have never heard of replacing the door hinges on any car period. They are usually designed to last for the normal service life of the car. I am surprised that this would need to be replaced on an LS460

its not the hinge itself.. you'll notice a black plastic piece that attaches to the b pillar and runs into the door..it adds tension to the door and gives u the rest point between 1/4,1/2 or full open.. the prob is that piece either needs adjustment to free the movement more or replacement due to defect...
