As part of a growing trend, Lexus (at least on the LS) uses UV protective glass on the windshield and windows.

Being light sensitive, I have "Photo-chromatic" glasses that darken when exposed to sunlight.

It turns out, that it's the UV that makes them darken, and, when inside my car, there's no UV! My glasses remain un-darkened.

I suppose I'll have to get some sunglasses and use the sunglass holder....

I guess that proves the wisdom that improvements are rarely 100% beneficial.

I think its more of what’s better for the masses and not the one.

Ill take the protection for both my skin and the interior from the harmful effects of the sun.

IHMO wearing sunglasses is a minor inconvenience relative to the benefits in this case, but then that’s just my opinion

yup, i think most of the new cars have glasses that block the uv, so wearing the photochromatic glasses won't do squad. i have those glasses and it never changes color

that's why i always tint my windows

My post wasn't a complaint as much as a heads up.

I was surprised when I discovered the cause of my eye discomfort while driving.

Interesting, I hope you find a solution that works for you (I usually keep an extra pair of sunglasses in the car). Indeed, improvements are rarely 100% beneficial...the question becomes, which one should be fixed? The UV-blocking windows or the UV-sensitive photochromatic glasses?

Don't get sun glasses with "Poloriod" lenses as the back window will be "mottled" or varied in color. Even the side windows seem somewhat distorted with Poloroid glasses. I have a pair of non-poloroid glasses that work just fine.

It may be that the use of polarized sun glasses (good for cutting reflected glare) may significantly reduce the visibility of the Navigation screen. I remember seeing something to that effect in the Owner's Manual.

In fact, my glasses are "Transitions".

I'm assuming that "Transitions DriveWear" is the same as "Transitions".....

I ended up getting some clip-on polorized sun-glasses.

Yes, the polorization does cause a slight mottling of the rear window and it seems to dim the NAV screen as well. Since my eyes don't hurt anymore, it's worth the trade, and I finally have a use for that little sunglass holder pocket......

Probably a good decision. Your eyes have to last a lot longer than your car!

no helmar....transitions "drivewear" is made for those that like and want a permanent light tint to their glasses and then gets darker as they go outside....its only good for daytime driving tho....

This was a huge issue for me with the NAV system on my Lambo, as that serves as my rear view mirror as well. Pretty useless with polarized lenses on. I tried to find non-polarized sunglasses from major manufacturers. Nearly impossible to find - they simply don't make them any more.

I've heard that there are a few brands of photochromatic lenses that now use visible light instead of UV to change just because of this issue. Haven't seriously checked into them yet. Keep meaning to.
