After driving my newly acquired '07 LS460L, I noticed that when sitting at idle (at least when Mr. Mark-Levinson isn't turned up), that there's a ticking noise coming from under my hood. Took it in to the dealer for a listen, and the tech says that it's injector noise, and that all the LS's have it as well as the IS line. True, or, you know....
yes, when idling there should be some ticking noise from the engine. that's the due to the direct injector since they are at very high pressure. it's normal, happens to new lexus that has direct injection (IS, GS, LS). it usually happens when the engine is cold i believe

It happens all the time more so when it is a cold start. Atleast to me, it seems more pronounced in the IS series.
Yep, it's an all-the-time ticking. I didn't notice it being worse in my '06 IS, but a louder tick there might be attributable to the lesser sound insulation in the IS.
Sounds kind of like loose tappets, but it's normal.
More pronounced when it's cold, but still there even when warm. At least I'm not alone, but though I didn't buy her new, it seems like if someone was paying $81K for a car with an interior so quiet you could hear the dead speak, this would make them pretty unhappy.
