The other day i've scratched both bumpers :-( on a friend's driveway and since I got to replace the tires soon and was wondering what the tallest/largest size tire i can put on the LS460 with factory 18'?

I've read couple threads about tire and would welcome suggestions on what brand and type works best and why. I've seen people saying that the MX series from Michelin are really quiet and that's (beside cost) is also a very important factor to me.

No idea what's the biggest tire that would fit, There seems to be a good amount of room around the tire.

But I was thinking about trying a Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my first change. I also planned to change to 225/55HR18. Tire rack shows the oem tires @27.3" in diam. and the 225/55-18 is 27.8" in diam. This should make my speedo closer to correct, It seems to be 2-3 mph off @ 70. 70mph showing on speedo ,67mph on GPS.

i wouldn't change tire size if you're staying with the 18" rims, i'd just get Michelins....now if you're talking rims, then it's mostly a consensus around here to go with 22" (it took me a long time to see this as the way to go with the LS)

I wasn't thinking about an upgrade to a set of 22" since i don't know yet how long i will keep this car but i agree that it looks awesome on that LS!

The OE LS460 wheels are only 7.5" wide (weak sauce) so you're limited to stock size.

Anything taller would change the speedometer AND gearing of the car, and anything wider will be out of spec for the narrow wheels.

What are the reasons for wanting a taller tire? To raise the height of the car? If you're having problems getting in your friend's driveway I would recommend:

1) a different approach angle
or
2) parking on the street

I can get in & out of most driveways with my slammed GS, a stock-height LS is a monster truck by comparison!

Cost shouldn't be a concern on a $70K car. Tires MAKE OR BREAK that car.
I would highly recommend the Michelins, or another NAME BRAND tire for that car.

No Nankang or Kumho on the LS, please!

Yes i was just hoping to raise the car by few inches to avoid scratching the bumpers everytime i get in and out of a steep ramp but i guess it won't work then.

Michelin MX4 is what i'm looking at now, i agree with your comments re Kumo's :-)

How did you make out on the taller tire size? I have opportunity to get 235-5-18 snow tires that are a real deal. But the height concerns me:
Original tire, 235-50-18
Sidewall: 4.63 in
Radius: 13.63 in
Diameter: 27.25 in
Circumf: 85.61 in
Revs/mile: 740.06

New Tire, 235-55-18
Sidewall: 5.09 in
Radius: 14.09 in
Diameter: 28.18 in
Circumf: 88.52 in

if your rubbing stock you might need to change your stock suspension sounds like there worn how many miles???

Go to www.tires.com and select tires... put in your car year, it will then tell you all the plus size options for tires from 18-22 sizes. If you are interested in what others here on CL are running with 20" plus, go here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ls-thread.html

Here is the screenshot from Tires.com based on a 2008 LS 460 18" oem wheel baseline. Remember, you need to make sure when you change tire sizes, that your load rating stays about the same..always ok to go up and you have to be a little cautious when going down in load rating.

I'm using 245 tires on stock 18" wheels, no issues.

my concern is more towards finding the maximum tire diameter without rubbing (whether its on 24" wheels or 19" doesnt matter).

According to your attached image from tire.com, the maximum tire diameter is found on 255 50 18 which is a 28.04 inch diameter.

A common mistake people make is thinking a 255 30 R22 *tire* is taller than a 255 40 R20 *tire* because 22" wheels are taller than 20" wheels... im asking about the tire

would a 245 60 R18 fit without tire rubbing/touching anywhere?

(unlike most guys wanting pimp big wheels, I want the most sidewall cushion for maximum comfort - Im actually considering going with wheels smaller than my 18s to make up for extra cusion - if anyone knows of smaller lexus wheels (es or gs?) that would fit please share)
