got lexus to do the tsib for the wind noise on my 07 ls460l executive. of course wind noise iss till there.

i used some tape on the triangle piece and noticed the noise went away significantly. so the only noise i hear is turbulence or wind shear which i guess is normal. even though i think the car should be sound proofed enough not to hear that either.

i gotta get rid of that noise. i guess i have to do the triangle piece fix or wait for replacement triangles from lexus?

mr29rose,

It sounds like you have made a couple of breakthroughs. First, you now realize that you have exhausted your options with Lexus for help with your wind noise problem (there are rumors of something-to-come but so far nothing). Just replacing the triangle trim with new pieces will not likely provide either a complete solution or a permanent solution. I have suggested, others have suggested and tried, and I think the consensus is that something different must be done for complete and long term relief of the wind noise.

The second thing is that you have satisfied yourself, by taping the triangle trim area, that your wind wind noise can be reduced. Good for you!! For others who are following this discussion, I would like to remind you that others have tried the taping trick with no improvement and they went on to do the triangle trim repair that has been discussed in this thread and reported complete elimination of their wind noise. So, don't be misled if you have tried the tape and didn't get an improvement. WhitBaby told us about this back in Post #142 in this thread.

I have suggested a repair, beginning at Post #406 in this thread, that is likely to produce very good results for you. It is a DIY procedure, but if you are not a DIYer you could probably get it done at a body-shop/collision-repair business. If you decide you want to do the DIY fix on your car and would like to have a couple of the sheet metal patches you can contact me, via the PM feature, and I will send them to you via USPS mail. I can also send you some higher resolution pictures of the repair instructions via email.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

It been 3 weeks only now since I bought my 07 ls460 gulf specs.

I can hear the wind noise over 120 km speed but I thought it is normal till I read this post.

I have contacted the dealer here in Qatar and they confirmed to me this thing and said that they can apply a kit which can improve it but will not remove the noise completely and that I will still hear the noise again.

I am very disappointed about it.

I am thinking to try your last improved solution in post #406 but I don't have the galvanized metal or the clear sealant.
What I can use instead? Or where I can get these things?
UAE,

Since you are in the same region, what did you used?

I wanted to do a follow-up post now that I have about 500 miles on since the dealer did the fix.

I was experiencing a mild wind noise problem. I heard three sounds 1) the sound like the door or a window wasn't fully sealed 2) wind rushing past the window and 3) wind catching the front of the window molding (mostly in cross winds).

The fix pretty much eliminated #1 and reduced #2 and #3 by about 25%. Now, 25% doesn't sound like much, but it took it from being a distraction to being what one would have expected all along.

Default Another LS Wind Noise Buyback - #20

Here is another wind noise buyback. It has already been sold.

This one is a 2007 LS460 VIN JTHBL46F975037417.

http://www.vehix.com/inventory/detai...770000012E70C8

If you don't want to chase the link, here is part of what it said:

Quote:
Manufacturer buyback for wind noise. The vehicle carries the remainder of factory warranty. What is Manufacturer buyback? When the vehicle goes back to the dealership for the same problem more than twice. The manufacturer has to buy back the vehicle from the customer and fix the problem before reselling the vehicle. The advantage: you save thousands compared to the going price on a similar LS460 and you will get the same manufacturer warranty and the problems are fixed. By law because it is a buyback the car will have a branded title.
End Quote

The latest wind noise buyback tally, including this one, looks like this:

Good luck getting Lexus to buy your car. Do Jeff's fix and wind noise will go away. There is already a solution to the problem! What's the point of asking Lexus to buy your car back? It sounds like you have buyers remorse now and just want to get rid of the car. If this fix was available when I had issues with my first car, I would still be driving it.

I know that this thread is now 507 posts, but if you go back to post #1 and read the whole thing, you will find that some people have tried your "fix" with the tape and also noticed that it doesn't work. But after trying Jeff's fix, noise has vanished. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to convince you of anything, I'm simply stating the fact that Jeff's fix works and hence there is no point in asking Lexus to purchase your car back. Jeff's fix will take you 30 minutes to do, if you are not DIY kind of guy. It's very simple to do. If you still feel uncomfortable doing it your self, take it to your dealer and simply take it to a body shop and ask them to do it for you. The most it will cost is $50 - $100 and the problem is gone and you are enjoying your car again.

I tried covering the triangular piece with masking tape too and no help.
I then did Jeff's fix and it worked completely. This leads me to believe the wind is coming through a passage between the outer door skin (including the outer triangular piece) and inner triangular surface with all the holes and seam gaps.

Aren't you the same one that wanted someone to go over to a Merc dealer in the Wheatridge, CO area and checkout an LS460 for you? I offered twice and you never responded.

Then you were trying to pedal some 'gold' badging. I asked if it was the OEM badging or just the cheap electro-plated jobs the gypsys were doing...again no anser.
Then there were a couple other issue since then, you seem to have a lot of issues like this.

Whit

first off, i dont need lexus to buy my car back. i am very happy with it and own the nicest of the ls460 models you can own, which is the long wheel base with executive package and every other option as well!

i just want to get this fixed so i can not feel like an ass driving this amazing car and hear crazy wind noises in my ear the whole time. i don't want to have to drive with blasting music to cover it up.

i will do the jmcraney fix for sure. i was just covering the entire piece with tape to see if it makes it go away. it doesn't help reduce it but i still hear annoying wind noise. so it makes me feel there are other spots the wind comes in from.

i must not have gotten your messages when you offered to go see them. also for the gold badges which were pretty nice. i ended up trying to polish them off but didn't look so nice, so i just bought all new chrome pieces and just installed them and it looks sweet! even the long trim piece which i had to take apart the trunk!

im just mad at this wind noise issue. i will try his fix and than move on to other trouble shooting to see how i can make it pretty much wind noise proof.

this car does have several design flaws and if they let me help them, i could make this car perfect!

thanks
