Jump Starting LS460
Can the LS460 be jump started or be used to jump another car? It seems that the battery terminals are not accessable for jumper cables. I used to have an Audi with the battery under the rear seat. But there was a terminal block under the hood for jumping. Is there some such thing here somewhere?

Can the LS460 .....be used to jump another car?
If someone asks you to use your LS460 to jump his car ...................... tell him he can't afford it!

I can now see that you have to remove the plastic housing first. Not too big a deal in an emergency, but I won't be using the LS to jump anyone else's car (unless it's a true emergency and there are no other cars around to jump from). But it's good to know what to do if and when I need to jump the Lex.

...lets say the engine wont start, but the battery is good. with a button push start, how do you keep cranking the engine until it turns over? do you just hold down the button? or what....

The engine ECU monitors the startup sequence, and will turn the engine over until it determines that the engine is running. If it doesn't then it will cause a fault in the program and display a warning on your dash display telling you to contact your service advisor. So many electrical and mechanical functions are monitored now that, inasmuch as I used to love tinkering with my cars in the past, I would dread to venture beyond the basics detailed in the Owner's Manual. If you did, you'd still end up at the dealer.

I would have to be in a desperate situation before I considered jump starting my new Lexus and even then would only use the booster battery I carry in the trunk. I'd call the dealer for what would probably be warranty service anyway.

I agree with you Dave. With all the electronics in this car, a severe voltage spike (which can and does happen when jumping from another vehicle) I'd be afraid of frying something.
