Sid, I'm also adding about the same amount of air as you. About 2-3 lbs. every month. I check my tires about once a month. I have my own compressor at home. I wonder if we would use nitrogen, we wouldn't have to add as often. Let us know what you come up with.

I also have Silver/Black...

Regards,

Craig

Looks like everything is fine, but I do make it a habit to manually check my tires every month (always in the morning, after the car has sat overnight, so as to get a good cold tire pressure). When the car was a month old, I checked and all tires were low. I added air to all 4 and decided they must not have seated the new tires well--or something. But, in the past month, I have checked the tires each Sunday morning--and the cold tire pressure (using the same air gauge)has decreased each week, & in every tire. After the last check, I aired all 4 up again! The loss was 2.5 lbs in 3 tires and 3 lbs in tire four. The spare's pressure has remained constant. I am in Dallas, TX, and it is hot here this time of the year. That being said, usually at the first cold snap each year I would loose tire pressure in my prior Lexus models with the tire monitors--I knew, because of the monitor. After 3 months of continued air loss, I took my car to my dealer--they remounted all 4 tires and aired them up to 36 psi. I just checked the tires and all 4 are loosing air as before (approx 1/2 lb per week). I plan to give this a couple more weeks to make sure the air loss continues--But who should I contact "Bridgestone or my Lexus dealer"?
I now have been to the local Bridgestone tire dealer who said my air loss is due to the chrome wheels and after my car has spent the last two days at Park Place Lexus, they say (Lexus) they can find no leaks and "a 4psi drop is not an abnormal condition in a six week time span". I really do not agree! I asked them to see if their Bridgestone rep would replace the tires--he said NO. Does anyone think a 4psi loss is normal in 6 weeks?

Borderline. If you are in a "four seasons" climate, the cooler weather can account for some of that. Frankly I check and top off air twice per month on the 15th and first. You should probably get into that habit ANYWAY.

Daryll, I did purchase the racing tire gauge you purchased. It came UPS today, so I haven't been out to check my tires until the morning. It looks nice. I purchased it from Amazon. I did check one tire to see how it worked. My other accutire gauge only reads in .5 LBS, not .1 like the new gauge.

Over the years and thru many cars with various tires and wheels; chromed, polished and painted, my average year around air pressure loss has averaged about a pound a month.

Mario Andretti's TV commercial for Firestone also states around a pound a month air loss for tires.

I have the chromed 9 spoke OEM 18" wheels on my 460 and darned if they aren't loosing about.....a pound a month.

Great. I LOVE my new gauge. And, by the way, it agrees exactly with the readings on the dash for tire pressures. Good luck with yours too. You will be happy you bought one!

In regards to chromes and losing air. On my LS430, I started losing air on the oem factory chrome in one tire. I brought it to Discount Tire (where I bought additional lifetime rotation and road hazzard *prorated*) and they said it was due to the wheel not the tire. I brought it to my Lexus dealership and they asked if I had hit any bumps and told them I had not. They ended up replacing the wheel under warranty.

I now have a 2007 week old Smokey Gray LS460 (ML, ADV Park, etc etc) with 18" chromes and hope this is not an inherent problem with chrome wheels. Unfortunately after reading the threads, this appears to be the case.

PS will a mod allow me to change my screen name? I want to change it to something more generic rather than the last car I had.....

OEM tires usually arent the best for a replacement, with proper research you can easily find a superior performing tire at a lower price. Most people dont know how to chose a tire so they get charged OEM rates when they get the same tire.

That's "Smoky (yes, that's how Lexus spells it) Granite Mica". Not Gray!
