Pole Position
I think it is that Noble Spinel Mica. The camera's flash coupled with the spotlighting set the metal flakes on fire as they do with the blue. I first thought it might be the Royal Ruby Metallic featured on the ES.

It's a very dark blue for sure, so it can't be too blue(if I get what you mean). I saw the Black Sapphire under the sun yesterday too & it isn't too blue to me - car looks gorgeous.
I think that's the exact appeal with colors like the Black Opal & the Black Sapphire Pearl. They are almost indistinguisable from black in the shade, but shows their real color under the sun.
Plus I prefer metallic paint for high end luxury models like the LS, they just look more expensive & elegant as they should be for a car in this class. The Obsidian black just doesn't do it for me for the LS, it looks good but just from a distance, not close up.

CL member Lt. Lex is in town from Japan and we chatted cars of course. He told me that the LS has been a TREMENDOUS hit in Japan and he seems them all over, which then agrees with the 11k sales vs 3k anticipated, we were told.
He said people are just going crazy for them in Japan.
