Winter Handling
We have a 460 in the mid-Atlantic. Due to our odd winter weather we have not had much snow, but were caught out in two different storms. The car has zero traction; is much worse than any other rear wheel drive we've had. A series of controlled skids was about the best we could do. We learned to drive in Northern New England and do have a lot of experience with winter weather. Anyone else have similar experience? We have 15,000 miles (Nov 2006 delivery) on the car and love its highway performance, looks and comfort. Would snow tires help?

I have used 4 snows on both the 430 and now the 460. I have no problems with the winter snows in NJ.
In fact, does anyone want to buy my 17" snows (supplied by Lexus)?

I have the same problem as you. I did not purchase snow tire and the first time it snowed here in MD, my drive home from work was the most horrific experience I've ever had driving a car in snow. From that day on, if it snows, I'm using my wifes Sequoia. I have heard that with snow tires a lot of guys on this forum have no problems in the snow. So that may be mine and your solution for the winters to come.

Rear wheel drive cars like the LS460 and LS460L need snow tires in the winter. You can get away with all season tires on the more common front wheel drive cars, because the weight of the engine in front assists with traction in snow. The same can't be said about RWDs. On the other hand, that LS460h will benefit from the Hybrid's battery's 800+ pounds and the 4WD.

I drove in 2" of snow and won't take mine out in the snow again. I have an Infiniti SUV for bad weather. With the stock tires, I wouldn't want to be out in a snow storm... I couldn't get much traction and it wasn't fun...
